Last chart for the year!

Welcome back to our...

03-kpjc-december-2024.png

Merry Slicémas, my dear bestianitas! I hope you're having a joyful, peaceful and bountiful December so far!

December... as many of you know... is kind of a dead month for K-Pop historically. There's a very noticeable dip in the amount of releases. But maybe this December 2024 will be different as we have strong competition between KPJ faves like Twice, Rosé, The Deep and fromis_9. Two LOONA alums, HaSeul and HyunJin, also released solo singles. Of course, the male acts like Onew, The Boyz, CRAVITY, from20 & Hello Gloom, Stray Kids and Mark are here for the testosterone-loving voters. And finally, if you enjoy Christmas music, there is a SHIT TON of new Christmas song for you to check out.

Of course, y'all can also use this month's chart to vote for older songs and albums instead! If you have favourite songs released earlier in the year that you feel deserves to reach the top 5 and therefore automatically qualify to the #KSOTY2024 Rate, feel free to promo them!

Alright, that's a long ass spiel FFFFFFF! Time to vote, unnies! LET'S GO!

1. Send a PM that contains a ballot of your 10 favourite songs and/or 3 to 10 favourite albums to @Slice of Life. Kindly rank these songs and albums too.

2. The songs and albums you're voting for should be what you've been listening to in the past month.

3. You cannot vote for songs and albums released after the month we are voting for.

4. The songs can be singles, album tracks, or whatever as long as it is released by a K-Pop artist in whatever language. Specify whether you're voting for the original, remix, or Japanese/Chinese/English/etc version of a song since they are counted separately.

5. You can only vote for songs released by non-K-Pop artists if it features a K-Pop artist (e.g. Lady Gaga's Sour Candy which features BLACKPINK).

6. The albums can be full length, mini album, or single album as long as it includes a minimum of three songs that are not instrumentals, remixes, intros, outros, and interludes. A repackage album is considered a different album if it contains at least three new songs (e.g. LOOΠΔ's [X X] is considered a different album from [+ +]).

7. Your favourite song/album gets 10 points, scaling all the way down to 1 point.

8. The total points earned builds the chart.

9. Ties are broken by number of voters, then by quality of votes received, and are left as a tie if we still can't break parity.

10. Commentary is highly appreciated but not mandatory.

11. An album or song must earn at least 10 points and must be voted by a minimum of two voters to chart.

12. Your ballot cannot be made up of more than 50% of songs and albums of just one artist.

13. The top five songs each month make the 2024 K-Pop Song of the Year Rate.

14. Accept Shaman Unnie as the one true Kween of Pop.

Deadline of ballots is on January 1, Wednesday, 23:59 GMT.

PMs will be sent to potential voters five days before the deadline to remind/threaten everyone to vote. Potential voters will be tagged three days and one day before the deadline too.

Now here's my sweet speech. I know you all may still be bitter about the amount of TripleS songs on last year's KSOTY, paired with the fact their sound doesn't seem to be enjoyed by many of you all. But I want to push for a top 5 spot for a song I believe is extremely meaningful. South Korea (like many other countries) is facing difficulties that mostly harm women and teenage girls, for that reason, I think a song like Girls Never Die is extremely impactful considering the circumstances (That's why I think its presence in this KSOTY is essential!!). Sorry if it may seem like I'm using such serious matters to send my currently favorite group to the top 5 again this year, but this is truly one of my favorite aspects of the song and the reason I have a lot of fondness to it. It seems kinda ironic to "support" a song by an artist part of a system that directly and since its creation has damaged South Korean women and the idea the general public has of them, but I believe in the transformative quality of art. I think it's such a fascinating driving force of change whose impact is unmeasurable. So, if you decide to spare a few points for Girls Never Die, I'd be inmensely grateful.

I'm also open to any other suggestion by any of you all for older songs to make it into this month's top 5!

Yeah i was kind of whatever on Girls Never Die but i have a new fond of appreciation on it recently. I’m definitely voting for it i think. I’m also not opposed to voting for Cignature. The little legends gone so early

I still don’t know what to send for my superbloom song so I will be watching closely.
