might actually be my favorite moment on the whole album.
There is a light inside of me, uh huh
There is a light inside
This is so good.
This tea is freezing cold.
Melonhead giving this a 2 just makes me love it more out of spite. What a moron.
The sonic landscape of this album is great, I think the title track is my favourite right now? It’s dramatic and she sounds glorious.
I love how "all over the place" people's favorites are (kinda like Golden Hour)
Mine have been changing a lot... even the ones I though were fillers (like "Keep Looking Up") have been growing on me a lot and are now up on my lisT
The film not including Breadwinner was shocking.
I always brace myself for that moment because it almost sounds scary dd
The problem is that the marketing probably worked for most people nn. Like I think Ashleigh and Mackayla hear this as a dramatic breakup album.
I never really gave my reaction to the film but I audibly gasped during the “camera roll” segment. It was stunning and the right amount of weird. “keep lookin’ up” was really pretty too.
I’m not crazy about the whole album but “good wife” is the thematic centerpiece and the best song here by a large margin? Hopefully they make it a single
I actually think good wife is one of the "worst" songs here. Nothing is bad, obviously, but the autotune feels unnecessary and the chorus is nothing special. I do like the soft, almost mournful delivery of "he still needs me..." though.
But the album is growing very nicely and I'd say everything else feels more essential to me.
I love how she grows the melody of the Good Wife chorus with each repetition, adding extra notes and changing words.
I will say, “justified” will go down as one of her very best. For being just three minutes, it hits every high & low necessary with that free flowing melody. Her vocals on the middle-8 when she flips the script are some of the best throughout the album.
I feel like I agree with people saying that the marketing has a disconnect and may have done a disservice to the album as a whole. The imagery and messaging at first announcement felt like we were in store for some campy, wrought-out melodrama of an album, so being faced with a much lighter, inward-facing affair was a bit of a shock for me at first listen. Sonically, the title track (and how it was paired with the teaser trailer for this) made me anticipate something more forward than we got, but the final product is still gorgeous and witty and heartbreaking, if only in quieter moments than I was expecting. I do like that she's continued on with the dreamier soundscapes she started to branch into for Golden Hour, and this does feel like a worthy successor/companion to it, and I'm glad it's not the full break into a wholly pop soundscape, but I do also miss a bit of the countryisms of her first two albums (I'm pretty sure Pageant Material has settled as my favourite album of hers).
Regardless, this has only opened up further to me after my already-pleased first listen, so I can't wait to grow into this album more and gain the emotional connections I've had to being able to see the previous material live.
I’m enjoying this ridiculous amounts. The journey it takes you on is immense.
There is a light is the highlight.
Yeah There Is A Light could be this album's Don't Start Now.
