Kate Bush - 50 Words For Snow (New Album)

Re: Kate Bush - New album in 2011. Possibly.

I would LOVE a DVD of her music videos, or of the Hammersmith Odeon concert.

Oooh, new album. I will have to see it to believe it though.

Her back catalogue has been woefully ignored by her label. If they repackaged her studio albums with remastered demos tacked on or released a videography on DVD it would sell like hot cakes.

As a Kate Bush fan I'm a bit of a weirdo as I only like her first four albums in entirety (asides from Aerial). I find her latter work a bit overproduced.

The label hasn't ignored it, she has. She has to give the go ahead for remastering/reissue and she is not interested - a bit like Madonna on that front!

Oh Kate. Those youtube videos have reminded me how much I love her. I learned the Wuthering Heights dance at university, but I think I've forgotten it.

No one on this earth has been a bigger influence on me.

I'm still reeling at the thought of someone not thinking Hounds Of Love is a complete work of genius.

EG.

Hounds of Love is perfect for long car journeys - the title track has to be played as high as you can bare. I think The Sensual World is her best 'album' album if that makes sense. You need to get your ears syringed to full appreciate Aerial, but it does eventually click. I'll need to have a Kate Bush binge after work. Her version of The Rocket Man is also better than the original. I bought the vinyl b/w Candle In The Wind but I don't have a player unfortunately - I just had to have it.

I will always associate "Hounds Of Love" with hazy half awake Saturday morning lie-in's, childhood angst and finding the gateway into Narnia.

Impossible. I'm tempted to put it down to one of those situations where someone says they don't really like something, when really they've never even heard it but they want to save face. There's just no way that you can think Hounds of Love is anything less than a masterpiece.

Re: Kate Bush - New album in 2011. Possibly.

In other news - this would make my year.

Albums from my favourite three artists ever - Madonna, Bjork and Kate Bush. Argh.
Stuff that fanboys' dreams are made of.

David Mitchell wrote an incredible article for the Guardian the other day on why he loves Kate Bush, and so should everybody else. It was really very good, and he quite rightly stated that while she has the accolade of a streak of fantastic albums, every single one, Hounds of Love and Aerial are her masterpieces.

Whatever she gives us will be amazing. With some artists you can discuss, debate and ponder for hours, but whatever Kate Bush gives us will be majestic because 1) she's a genius, and 2) she just wouldn't release it if it was anything but.

i literally nearly wet myself when I seen this thread - god i hope its true. She is probably the only musician that makes me reach mania levels of fandom.

When Aerial came out i took two days off work to listen to it

I used to lie in bed listening to it on headphones. 'The Ninth Wave' was so evocative and -at times- scary, I used to have really vivid dreams after listening to it. I was only about 8, but it changed the way I listened to music forever. I had really low levels of tolerance for anything mediocre after that.

Ha, me too! Listening to it for the first time was a magical experience.

I don't want this to be like Aerial. I want her to finally come out of her cave and perform. That would be unreal.
Just imagine if this year they offer her the BRITs Lifetime Achievement again, and she accepts and performs.

Re: Kate Bush - New album in 2011. Possibly.

I really want her to be on the front cover artwork this time
(and not buried away in the linear notes like she was for Ariel).

If she is not, then my expectations of precisely how much promo to expect will adapt accordingly.

I really want her to approach this campaign from the same headspace she was in for every album leading up to (and including) "The Sensual World".

I can't put my finger on why, but I have the gut feeling that if she was ever to pull some live performance out the proverbial bag, then it is going to be a case of now or never.

The available TV platforms are so narrow in this era.

All she would have to do is Jools Holland.

Unfortunately she never will be as visible as she was pre-Red Shoes. She's a different person now, and she doesn't need to do promo. She is elevated far beyond mere pop star status, the music and material she puts out matched with her enigmatic, elusive persona will have the press desperately grasping for whatever she ends up putting out - that will be all the promo she needs.

She is one of the few people (barely) active in the music industry today who doesn't need to leave the house essentially and can put an album of new material inside the top 3 if they released it next week. And for good reasons, too.

I am not approaching this from a place of what she does or does not "need" to do.

Exactly, it's about what we want from her. And I agree that the last album was a dissapointment as a Pop campaign.

Just because she's the ethereal super-icon, doesn't mean we'll be satisfied with an album that has absolutely no visual presentation.

Re: Kate Bush - New album in 2011. Possibly.

Is it true that Cheryl Cole cites Kate Bush as her biggest influence?

It's not that I don't find it a masterpiece (which it IS!), it's that I find it hard-going to listen to all the tracks together in one go as it's just so densely brilliant. A similar example is the ArchAndroid by Janelle Monae.

Re: Kate Bush - New album in 2011. Possibly.

Kate Bush is one of my favourite artists of all time but I was still a little disappointed by Aerial and do not have unrealistic hopes for future work.

Historically she managed to straddle the line between pure pop and experimentation perfectly. Ariel arguably focussed on the latter, i.e. no choruses.

Anything new from her is still a treat and her legacy is already in place however I am not holding my breath for another Hounds of Love or Kick Inside.

Old school fans will love this recently uploaded VHS documentary (brought to my attention by Holy Moly of all things). Lovely stuff.
