sorry! Grave dislexia, especially as i was posting late at night without having the records before me.

Still, 4 year gaps; and one (alleged) gig in over 20 years do not exactly argue against the 'pathological lazyness' thesis, do they?

It's not alleged actually - Bush made a live appearance with Dave Gilmour and Peter Gabriele at some ball. It's just that facts are easily found on the internet. I do agree about the frustration - 12 years felt too long.

Re: General Kate Bush discussion thread

If you think the album was dull, whouldn't you be more annoyed if on top of that she was trying to push it?

Not at all. The opposite in fact. Had she performed some of the songs on TV, radio or even done vidoes for more than one of them it might have made the songs more appealing to me. There's plenty of songs that have grown on me via performance.

I just think one intimate Abby Road session for Radio 2 or something wouldn't have killed her!

True.
But i seriously think she can't do it. I have come to conceptualise her as a sloth.

'The Ninth Wave' -with the latter, the dark side, being clearly superior in my opinion

I agree with that for sure. You do know that The Ninth Wave is a concept album, right? (concept mini-album, anyway)

I can't believe there haven't been deluxe remastered editions of any Kate albums besides Hounds of Love yet (and I didn't think the remastering on it was that great to be honest.) For shame!

Re: General Kate Bush discussion thread

You've touched a nerve there. Years ago i chanced into -exactly- a remastered, de luxe, VYNIL edition of Kick Inside (on the occasion of EMI's 100th birthday or something). I blinked, it was gone.

Yes, remastered editions...I expect that an enhanced clarity of sound -especially in 'Hounds...' and 'Dreaming- will put in shame many of today's 'cutting edge' musicians. But with the trouble EMI is in -and having recently appointed a baker as its CEO- i doubt it is possible.

Does anyone think that Houdini and Get Out of My House are some of the best things Kate has ever done? I just love the way she works all that imagery into the song, and like manages to keep it in a really engaging rhythm...it is totally unbelievable that she's not a God of the music scene, media-shy as she is....

And another thing (possible new topic):
Why did she only come19th *gasps* in Q Magazine's list of 100 Amazing Voices!!!

Having said that, Q aren't reknowned for the accuracy of their lists...

I definitely agree about Houdini and House. Absolutely incredible the way Kate works the songs' themes into the sounds, the words, the whole FEEL. It's amazing, and she was only in her early 20's at the time!

I think she was more of a God of the Scene when she was starting out. There are tons of pics, interviews, tv appearances, etc from the era of the first three albums. Don't forget she was a better selling artist than Madonna for quite some time.

I put no stock in Q Magazine's list. Feh!

Yes but she had a 5 year or so lead on Madonna's first album being release so that's not an entirely fair statement is it?

What are Kate Bush's sales to date? Anyone have a break down of units?

It is not transforming sound to imagery, but to a compelling physical force. 'Houdini' lifts and lets you down like sea waves (many of her songs send you floating actually), and i have some difficulty listening to 'Get out of my House' because i really feel short of breath, like getting punched in the plexus or something. A wizard-musician. (Redording 'The Dreaming' involved slamming doors and smashing marble tablets in abbey road...probably some people freaked out).

Cannot guess what led to her exile from the scene. For three or four years she was at the epicentre, construing somthing like an 'avenging angel' persona -more fierce and bonkers that Johnny Rotten in her way, and more eccentric than Bowie. Then, in 1985 -age what? 25?- she was like a responsibe, mature lady. And we never really saw her again more than once per decade.

No idea at all. Consider asking at Haven forums?
By the way, 'Wuthering Heights' re-entered (!) the charts the week ending on 18 March, at no.173. This without a re-release, an anivarsary, a fans monilisation or its featuring in a tv ad. Just like that.

So, a thread just about Kate in general.

I'm listening to The Dreaming right now and it's brilliant. The end.

I was just thinking this very day how I wanted somewhere to discuss Kate's general amazingness. She's not retired though! She does not belong in here. She will be back... someday...

I would like to mention 'Be Kind To My Mistakes', because no one ever mentions it and it is amazing.

The Ninth Wave, Aerial (2nd disc) are materpieces.
Love the songs Under the ivy, Top of the city, Man with the child in his eyes, The saxophone song, Oh England my lionheart (even though I'm Scottish), Never be mine, Sat in your lap, Night of the swallow in particular.

Come back Kate!

'Under The Ivy' is incredible! The way she sings, 'And it's not easy for me to give away your secrets' is just heartbreaking.

And 'The Dreaming' is just perfection in every single way. And to think someone can write songs like 'Get Out Of My House' at such a young age...

The Dreaming is her best album. I have a massive soft spot for Coffee Homeground though. What a bonkers song!
