Katy, Kesha, Gaga FIRST ERAS - Final Farewell and Updated Front Page

Hello, and welcome to my rate. Now that you are here you are not allowed to leave. Since we’ll all be here for a while, you might as participate. Nobody likes a party pooper.

Today we begin a time-traveling journey to a simpler time. A time that taught us how repeating syllables can make an infectious and successful pop song. A time before a particular world-conquering Teenage Dream invaded our lives and our radios indefinitely. A time when throwing glitter in the air and being yourself came to the forefront of pop culture. We have three particular ladies to thank.


What do they all have in common? (A.K.A. Why this rate?)

Katy Perry, Kesha, and Lady Gaga all burst onto the scene around the same time, each after their own lengthy but very different journey. Every one of them has taught us that you can release seemingly “meaningless” pop/dance songs while maintaining a personality and also releasing very important and meaningful songs. Perhaps even more importantly is that they showed how to not be afraid of being yourself and to have a little bit more carefree fun. Since their breakouts, each has led a very successful and unique career filled with their own highs and lows that we here on PopJustice have, of course, followed very intently.


So how is this going to work?

We will be focusing on the first eras of each pop queen. The rate will be held in two parts, the first being One of the Boys vs. Animal vs. The Fame, the second The Fame Monster vs. Cannibal. You can participate in just one of the two parts if you want, but I highly encourage both! This way, we'll be comparing the true debut eras and then the 1.5 eras (Katy doesn't really have an equivalent).

You will rate each song on a scale of 0-10.
Any decimals (within reason) will be accepted. I will include an easy PM-able list for you to use below, please please use this to make my life easier! If you don't have an easy way to access each song, I've linked each song to itself on youtube. The PM - Able list will be split into the two parts for clarity. NOTE: If you are returning, bonus tracks were later added and are in red.

You may choose one song FROM EACH PART to receive a score of 11/10.
That's two 11's total. These can be songs that are most important to you, the songs you think are the best from an un-biased point of view, or your underdog faves that you think will need an extra boost.

Commentary is highly encouraged but certainly not required.
You can write anything you'd like to say about each song and it'll appear in the write-up. I’d rather receive scores with no commentary than no scores at all! It's acceptable to only write commentary for certain songs, and I'll accept any commentary at any point (even after the deadline).

Send in your list to me by NOVEMBER 4, 2016 if you want your scores to be counted.
If people are running out of time as the deadline approaches, we’ll deal with it when the time comes!

That’s all you have to do! Once the deadline passes, I’ll reveal the songs from lowest score to highest, starting with part one, with the accompanying commentary as well as my own write-ups. Once the first part is complete, we'll move onto part two. I Look forward to your company as we relive 2008-2010+ in all its glory. This is my first full rate, so it'll be a learning experience for me and I'm thankful to each of you that makes my first time extra special.

Poor Katy... Lacking in quantity and quality. How different that will be in the second era rate on both counts.

 

Katy would have stood a chance if Cannibal and Monster weren't here. The annihilation. Can't wait to see the Top 10 be all Gaga. *sigh*

 

Imagine if there was rate with Fame Monster, Cannibal and Teenage Dream...

It would be the end of PJ.

 

Katy may very well end up averaging very poorly in comparison to the other two but she does have a couple singles that could very well carry her to the top so I'm definitely interested to see how it plays out.

 

Thinking Of You might be my 11. But for a Katy Stan, I've not listened to One of The Boys in full since 2008 probably. Whilst loving PRISM. Oop!

 

One Of The Boys is probably my least favorite but once I'm done with it I should be able to submit my scores.

 

Aw, I wish EPs weren't included in this. Bad Romance is so obviously going to steamroll through everything.

Oh I thought The Fame Monster is not included and I had my definite 11. But now things are changed. EPs are my most favourites. And I don't like Katy's album , specially in comparison to her other works and other albums in the rate.

Just a question, why are the bonus tracks not included? Kinda makes me sad because I love Gaga's Disco Heaven and Again and Again.
