Katy Perry - 143

he/him
I assume she’ll use the VMAs in September to promote the album and be given some sort of lifetime achievement/vanguard award. She can perform a medley of much stronger songs from her back catalogue while also throwing in a bit of whatever the current single is at that moment (probably “I’m His, He’s Mine”) and announce the tour right after her Rock In Rio show. I don’t think she’ll have an issue selling that at all if they lean into the nostalgia properly.

Im not sure about how they’ll unroll an Arena Tour at this point, and I doubt it will be in the same capacity from her previous schedules, unless some magic happens and she gets a massive hit to sell the tickets.

Witness was a struggle, the Vegas residency was masked up… I know recently we’ve been watching a constant “whew can she pull it?” every time an act announces a Tour, but this is giving Feed The Curtains World Tour. I guess it doesn’t have to be a full Sold Out run to pay the bills, but a great Festival run to drum up some interest would probably look better.

They're going to have their work cut out for them selling a tour, for sure. She does have an undeniable catalog of hits, but the press around her right now is so awful and concert tickets aren't cheap. I think their best move is going to obviously be to put less emphasis on the album and more on selling her as a live act + reminding people of her hits - a couple festivals, some televised performances, etc. A big retrospective VMA performance (I have a feeling she'll get the Vanguard) with a tour announcement the following day feels likely.

I think a lot will depend on how the rest of the rollout goes.

I’m His He’s Mine getting the single treatment when it’s maybe the only thing we’ve heard so far that sounds even worse than Woman’s World feels about right for this era.

Katy would easily sell out an Arena tour, Just look at the streaming figure for her back catalog. Millennials have the money to spend and Teenage Dream is one, if not the nostalgia album of the 2010’s.

If Justin Timberlake is selling well with a shitty album and just by nostalgia, I can’t see Katy having the hardest time to sell seats with her collection of massive hits. Yes people were more invested in Justin maybe but Katy sounds like a good night out to many growing up with her hits, plus I barely heard people being disappointed after one of her shows, she has a good live reputation.

They may have to put some work into it in terms of reminding people about how great Katy is, but I think it’s save to say she won’t have the hardest time to book the stages you’re speaking of.

Agree she’d be fine at this point with the nostalgia factor so high for tours. But she won’t be doing stadiums like maybe they’d hoped if this era hadn’t been so awful.

More pics of her filming video(s) in Ibiza. Apparently one of the videos is Gimme Gimme? :

The demand for tours is huge, so she'll sell as long as it's branded as the hits part. Not a stadium tour, but no-one expected that. I do wonder what festival would book her tho? Kii.

Katy filming 3/4 videos ahead of time like the album's already a smash hit when the lead single tanked so badly she moved on in literally 2 weeks... okay?
Well it's that or give up on the campaign, dump the album out and quickly move on which obviously they're not going to do? For better or worse the label is behind the album.
