Katy Perry - 1432

I think Lifetimes actually worked fine during the medley. Like, it didn’t sound like part of the performance, it was giving background music while singer walks to the stage to receive the Award ddd. It does have this “fake last song/first song Encore” energy and pairing it with a huge hit helps. I’d say it is the “best thing” from this era so far, just too bad it’s one chorus repeated four times without verses.

It was also quite funny to hear Swish Swish right after she ended since they’re really ignoring Witness and Smile.

I actually don't think Lifetimes sounded particularly good during that performance, but that's more about the song itself being limp than Katy's ability as a performer.

To be honest, I think she nailed Firework, which feels like a rarity? All the previous performances I've ever seen of the chorus especially have felt a bit struggle bus, but not this time.

It's better than Woman's World but the production ie. the sample is doing so much heavy lifting. Lifetimes is the better single and this won't do shit.

Her best Firework performance remains the inauguration one for me. I feel like that's the best vocal she's ever delivered.

It was truly one of her best performances she’s done. Thank the lord Woman’s World and Roar were left to rot. I still think Lifetimes bops a bit, the new song with Doechii would be more than fine if it sounded like it wasn’t in need of 4 lines of coke to speed things up. Of course it should go without saying at this point she should have never worked with Puke again for the obvious reasons. Wanna add the disclaimer there.

Brilliant performance, amazing staging and great selection of songs. Doechii sounds good on the news single, but the "la da di" section is so limp and uninspired. As others have said, it should've been sped up slightly.

On the flip side, that statement by her A&R gives you an insight into the yes-men that surround her*. It seems like they've all convinced themselves that the reason things aren't taking off is due to misogyny rather than the audience being turned off by the fact that Luke is a literal predator alongside the music just being mid.

*Also the type of people Sky Ferreira was up against at Capitol.

I get the impression many people who work with Pop music don't actually care all that much about it (as an art form or product in its own right), and so it's all kind of the same to them? Like that performance would just read as a collection of songs of equal quality and merit and so some reason, beyond the product itself, needs to be sought for the latest offerings not smashing.

Just to clarify my earlier statement, I don't think that other people can't say this performance was good or even great. I just personally don't think it matters until she apologizes for what really is a major transgression. It's not just a mistake.

I think that performance served as a reminder that there are such few women in pop who have reached the same heights Katy Perry did at her peak.
When comparing the medley to Sabrina, Chappell etc (which were both varying degrees of good) there was no confusion around who graduated from the school of Big Pop Girl and who is still working their way through the ranks.
