Katy Perry - 1432

I mean...I dunno about that one. This album has been a pretty significant misfire for her creatively/morally but I think she'll be fine in the long run (don't all rush in here to post chart stats at me at once, I don't give a shit!). Most artists who've been around for the length of time Katy has - and then some! - have struggle bus periods.

Even creatively, I'm not sure that "righting the ship", so to speak, is out of the question either, but that obviously doesn't happen overnight.
I feel like the geepee probably isn't aware of anything post Chained to the Rhythm/Bon Appetit in 2017. This is now the third album in a row by her where people aren't even aware it's out. Being on Idol also didn't help her because people didn't like her on there dd. She can ride on previous hits since that's probably going to sell the tour, but I think unless public interest in her suddenly surges and the next album's lead single is a straight out of the gate smash... I don't see it for her and really that's OK too. Not every artist is meant to have a 20+ year career.

Now do I hope she just says fuck it and goes down a pop-rock route again? Sure, One of the Boys is still my favorite album.

This whole ordeal is always going to be frustrating to talk about, because the direction Katy should have taken was so obvious. Even outside of Luke’s involvement, it’s like nobody looked at what was happening in pop music since 2014-2020. All the girls from that late 2000s era have been going back to their roots, so to speak, so tapping into nostalgia was never the issue here. But Katy is digging around in a bag that was never hers.

I feel like the last few pages have already done that plenty dd. We’ve been talking about how Katy should have hit up Dan Nigro and done pop-rock since the album came out.
Ooh gotcha!

I’ve always felt Katy needed a stripped back era that’s songwriting forward. Her maximalist-pop clownery shtick is outdated and she’s not built a story around her as an artist or legitimized herself with critics.

Hot N Cold was one of the things that first made me love PJ. I went to the front page looking for new songs, and there was a snippet of a song from someone called Katy Perry. 30 seconds of that song's chorus was enough to make me want to check out her stuff the moment it was released, and also encouraged me to sign up for the forum, even though I wasn't really into music forums at the time.
Katy doing cool and interesting things seems as far in the past as the PopJustice front page having an update, but I have hope for both.

Clubs in Spain have overplayed Hot n Cold so much for the past 17 years that I can’t help but have a visceral reaction whenever I hear it—a distress not just neurological but also emotional and physical. A feeling akin to pure fear covers my body whenever I hear those first hi-hat patterns. Cold sweat all over my face and chest area, my limbs completely numb, my lungs tightening thus cutting off the flow of air. Several blood vessels feel like have popped in my cranium which have resulted in loss of braincells.

I have the exact symptoms when clubs play that version of Empire State Of Mind that starts with Frank Sinatra’s New York New York.

So basically what you're saying is hearing the song makes you feel... hot and cold

I see the eternity pit is now GA rather than VIP for the UK shows? Guess that explains why my ticket got 'upgraded' to Infinity. Would rather have had a refund of the difference.
