Katy Perry - 6th Album

Just listening to this playlist and it’s safe to say she has plenty of huge bangers and she was dominating the charts for a good few years:

Roar
Teenage Dream
I Kissed A Girl
Fireworks
Hot N Cold
Never Really Over
California Gurls
Smile
Swish Swish
Dark Horse
Daisies
Chained To The Rhythm
Last Friday Night
Part of Me
The One That Got Away
Waking Up In Vegas
Wide Awake
365
ET
Harleys In Hawaii
Bon Apetite
When I’m Gone
If We Ever Meet Again
Thinking Of You
Rise

he/his/him
It’s such a weird comparison by comparing Katy to Bebe and Ava - makes no sense to me.

Bebe and Ava would never be able to replicate the global dominance Katy achieved with Teenage Dream etc and that era alone puts Katy firmly in the upper echelon of big pop girls.

A-list b-list etc are irrelevant

Okay, yes, Katy is obviously an A-lister and one of biggest popstars out there. But why is there more attention placed on this debate than talking about how these dumb ass popstars need to stop doing events like these. Like, can Katy get some amount of fucking depth and think about the implications of her decisions? She's so fucking dense and thoughtless and if she didn't have such a talent for bops, more people would be able to see this.

I think "household name" is a more meaningful distinction than "A-list", "B-list", etc. It's also harder to attain. My older straight coworkers know who Katy Perry is. They've never heard of Bebe Rexha or Ava Max, even if they might dimly recognize one of their hits.

One Love Manchester is definitely my favorite Katy "event" performance, and that one was for a properly good cause.

She remains a household name who could snag just about any press/promo opportunity she wants, despite an increased struggle to nab chart-topping hits. There's nothing B-list here, even if it has been some time since she was at her pop star peak, and I still think she's in a place where she could easily make a big comeback with the right song. But regardless of that, her profile as a celebrity really hasn't dipped in the slightest.

I kinda gasped when I saw The Guardian refer to Katy as B-List because I don’t think that’s true or even a fair assessment of her place in pop right now???

But it kind of is though.. Would she have done it if she was coming off the back of a much more successful era?

Would she have been asked sooner before all those bigger, more relevant acts who allegedly turned performing for a very unpopular royal down?

She signed up for polarising event, people are allowed to question her motives and place in popular culture.

I'm just so glad Tory Christmas is over and the rain has ruined all the flag shaggers bunting tbh.

It's obvious she doesn't want a comeback. She thought she delivered a real -body of work- a la Lemonade or Anti with Witness, but the reception killed off any drive she had left to be that girl. She seems content being a legacy artist, relying on her back catalogue to get gigs like inaugurations, coronations and residencies. It's futile to expect more from her at this point.

Can we officially start using the duck as a downvote button
