Katy Perry - "I'm His, He's Mine" + 143 (Sep 20)

I was just listening to her MTV Unplugged and it made me really sad, knowing what kind of artist she could be. She sounds so beautiful on Hackensack.
And I didn’t even know she wrote Thinking Of You entirely by herself – that gorgeous song??? If she really does that acoustic album she was talking about one day, I’d love for it to be completely self-written. Remind the world she’s a songwriter.
Hackensack is so beautiful. Also The One That Got Away Acoustic is just stunning.

She has some properly amazing songs, but it feels this album will not house any new additions to that, no matter who produced them.

I just wished she did a "Joanne" or a "Golden" - a reset in between pop albums, an album not trying to be on trend or forcing something, just good songwriting, nice visuals etc. Maybe it would not have been a big chart success but it could have been a reminder of her craft. I was sceptical from the moment on I saw these Charlie XCX like promo shots.

I think that's probably what she'll do next, a more "grown-up"/AC-leaning/P!nk-y type of album with some solid potential radio hits. After this era I feel like we're probably never seeing "bangers for the gays" Katy again, for better or worse.

Isn't she already working on a supposed acoustic album which should be released after this one? That would make more sense when it comes to sound progression compared to this.

She mentioned that. It’s technically a good idea but I’m a bit scared of Katy Perry The Songwriter by now. Both Witness and Smile had quite a few dramatically bad lyrics.

Why do people always seem to want an acoustic Katy Perry album? I know her current soundscape isn't working but I can't think of anything that excites me less ddd

I mean, she shines in that environment. Also still think people are using “acoustic” to say they want her to return to her singer/songwriter roots where there was less emphasis on production. And I’m sure that’s probably what Katy means when she says it. Just like her calling 143 a dance album when it just means there’s no ballads. Doesn’t necessarily mean she needs to be plucking away at an acoustic guitar for an entire project.

Katy's singer/songwriter and pop/rock stuff really showed what set her apart and made her unique. The clunky lyrics just worked because the whole vibe had that quirky quality to it.

With how distinct her lyrics used to be, it's insane that this is the same woman who is now giving us the lyrics we've heard from this album

I know Teenage Dream is a behemoth but a knife in her side as well. It dictated from then on what 'success' would be for her, or so she thought. If she had kept "Long Shot" as the lead single for the second album with a song like this as a follow-up, the possibilities!

I'm curious what she'll do if and when commercial dominance is firmly off the table. I mean...we could argue it already was, but I do think maybe reception to this album is cementing that Smile and Witness weren't simply bumps on the road or mere misfires. Does she have any ambitions as a music artist beyond being a hitmaker? I would've argued maybe she did before this album's...offerings.

Do we think that the signed 12x12s with the vinyl from her store is gonna be autopen? I'm really in two minds on cancelling it because I’m not sure how much replay value this record will get from me. They were up for ages so I’m thinking either it’s autopen or nobody want it ddd

There was a video of her and Daisy signing some art cards so I assume they'll be done by her.

It was sold out and restocked a few times.
