Kelela - Raven + RAVE:N, The Remixes

Yet another masterpiece from our PS5 queen. In addition to the very obvious "Janet at her most aqueous", I'm getting Dawn Richard's Blackheart, Kate's Aerial and Erika de Casier's Essentials - and maybe even Solange's When I Get Home, not so much in sound but in that it has a dreamlike quality and is very introspective.

I really liked the whole album but, singles aside, I was most impressed with the run from "Holier" to "Bruises" after an initial play.

"Let It Go"...

Haven't moved on from it, afraid I won't either.

Some interesting information from an industry insider on ~another forum~:

Apparently the album's been more-or-less done since early 2021. That's how long the insider is claiming to have had it, and when she stopped recording. She spent the last year on mixing and creating the visuals.

For what it's worth, major respect to Kelela for knowing her exact vision for this album and not moving on it (for almost 2 years). That's pretty badass if you ask me, considering all the extra time she had.

This is superb as expected, I find it hard that another album could top this one this year. She has crafted such a specific and marvelous soundscape. Standouts apart from the pre-release tracks are 'Let It Go', 'Holier' and the title track, though there isn't a single sub-par song. Back to back excellence.

The singles so far have subtly scalped me, I'd added a few to my regular playlist and they always stop me in whatever I'm doing to just digest them. Had no idea this was out so soon. Cannot wait to listen to this in all its glory.
