Kelly Clarkson - 10th Album

She did a ton of promo for the last Christmas album and she also had the talk show and The Voice at that time, so I'm not too worried about her putting the time into making the album a success. The way she has spoken about this upcoming project, she seems very proud of it. I think she would have gladly done more for "Meaning of Life" but the return just wasn't there after a couple singles. Her tweet regarding "Heat" not being played on radio remains iconic. I just really hope she's able to tour, or revive the Vegas residency at least!

The talk show getting renewed is not a surprise. She's factored that into her planning by now. I get the skepticism, considering all the delays and constant "It's coming!" statements, but it makes sense to me that the album would actually come in the new year or spring. There's no point in pushing an album during the holidays and now that the divorce is finalized, she can move ahead with less of a headache.

I also took last year's Christmas album to be a show of good faith that she is invested in music still. Even if she's not a full-time pop star anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if she is having second thoughts with releasing a divorce album. Many other artists have done a lot of breakup/fuck you songs in the past and some reiterate they do not enjoy singing or will not sing them as it reminds them of the past. I imagine it's the same with her considering it now involves her children.

Maybe I am overly negative, it’s just been a long time since Meaning of Life and with The Voice and the show it does feel like her priorities are still elsewhere, but we’ll see!

April will be 20 years of Thankful, I know it’s probably her worst album but I really do hope it gets some love for the anniversary, releasing a vinyl, remastering in Dolby Atmos and videos in 4K would be great. I know Breakaway is ‘the’ album to most people but it’s really time to celebrate each era!

I just think it comes down to scheduling for Kelly more than anything else. (Also, yeah, she stumps for her records, but she’s never been a promo queen post-Breakaway.)

Edit: Incorrect, see below.

Now sis, I will be the first one in line to drag Kelly nowadays, but this is simply not true. Her last album campaign (which, yes, was 5 years ago but still) -

Love So Soft - Today Show, America's Got Talent, Ellen, Graham Norton, The Voice Germany, 2017 WE Day, 2017 Invictus Games, 2017 AMAs, Carpool Karaoke

I Don't Think About You - Today Show, Seth Meyers, Ellen, The Voice

Heat - Today Show, Radio Disney Awards, Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, 2018 US Open, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Voice, NBC New Year's Eve

And that's just the singles. There was still Medicine on The Voice, Didn't I on Seth Meyers, Whole Lotta Woman on Jimmy Fallon and the BBMAs, and probably more I'm forgetting. There is no pop girl, established or otherwise, giving us a promo schedule like this, especially someone 8 albums deep and 15 years into their career.

She did release a divorce album. Delete the covers from When Christmas Comes Around… and you get a pretty decent idea about her feelings. It’s about cheating, about leaving, and it’s all about the absolute Kelly classic Merry Christmas (To The One I Used To Know).

I know the tinsel is making people ignore it but there is pure Kelly essence in lots of the songs and some are quite personal. Christmas Isn’t Cancelled is a silly bop at first but even that is about overcoming the pain in the end.

I actually find the mix of frantic Christmas songs and strong emotions quite fitting too for the extremely mixed bag of emotions you go through as someone who lost their partner and in her case has children to take care of too. You really go from Rockin’ Around The Christmas tree to Crying on the bathroom floor.

Not the way most wanted it but it is an album that deals with her divorce too. Even on positive notes, check Blessed.
