Kelly Clarkson - Chemistry (Deluxe)

Someone like Kelly needs a smart team around her when it comes to executing a successful campaign. She seems like someone who wants to do the work, but needs a solid team to give her the work to do/appearances to make/etc. She does what she's told in that department, goes with the flow, and trusts it. I don't know if it's her label, her management, or what, but they're really dropping the ball so far. There are so many other options than dropping a performance from the Belasco show and going live on socials every Friday.

I agree with a lot of what’s being said (except I love the music) but I also think her time is so used up now that she doesn’t have the time for music any more.

It must bring the least amount of money and is probably the hardest work for her so in a lot of ways I can’t blame her.

So what we’ve ended up with is a really half baked ‘campaign’ which is actually quite frustrating to watch unfold… Nothing has happened to directly cause people to stop being fans of Kelly and yet I’m scared the album won’t make the top 20.

The stuff Clive Davis said about Kelly during the My December era would not have been said about a male artist in a month of Sundays.

Regardless of whether you got the 'bops' you were looking for or not, if you're actually supporting the idea that she should have dutifully nodded and gone fishing for Lindsay Lohan album tracks, you seriously need to give your head a wobble.

I think this definitely WAS true... but is her time actually that used up at the moment? Isn't her show on hiatus because of the Writer's Strike? I realize that the strike limits her promotional avenues to some degree, but it seems like the silver lining of the strike is that she should have plenty of time to come up with other ways of supporting the album...

Oh spare me this condescending bullshit. I can think that Kelly was mistreated by her label bosses and also think her vision needed some work. One does not negate the other. I do think in an ideal world RCA and Kelly could have come to an agreement where she recorded a few new songs to be singles and the rest of the album was largely as she envisioned it, with some extra polishing. That doesn't make me a sexist, Clive Davis loving head case. And quite frankly, if they had found some common ground with My December, it would have saved her from being forced into a studio with a man she despised to get an easy hit on the next album

Something interesting from her Facebook live…

She answered a question about coming to the UK quite vaguely, saying she really wanted to but she was busy, a single mom, but then kind of implied she was trying to sort something (she said I don’t want to spoil anything) but then ended with the only way to definitely see me is to come to Vegas.

It’s the most reassured I feel that she hasn’t completely forgotten about us! My read on it is that maybe she is coming over for promo and they’re trying to work out a show for when she’s here but maybe I’m being very optimistic! Definitely didn’t sound like she would tour here any time soon though.

She spoke about Lighthouse as if it was out and then suggested she’d spoilt something so I wonder if that’s out next week? I didn’t think we had any more pre release singles.

Oh and when asked about Kellyoke 2 she was positive, saying they know there are more songs people want but that the focus is on the album and maybe something else…

She did answer very cryptically about the Belasco as a full release so it could just be that.

On the My December chat, I came to it years later and it certainly has some incredible moments. Never Again, Sober and Irvine. As @Drew has said, it could've
done with a few singles to get it a bit more love, especially when her last album was so dominant.

Clive handled it awfully and for a veteran in the industry should have known a lot better. His behaviour is inexcusable and he showed his true colours there. Undoubtedly a veteran of the industry but an outdated one who's best left on the back burner.

Basically she needed to do what Avril compromised with for Goodbye Lullaby.

The competition isn't exactly high, but I would rank Mine amongst her best lead singles. I don't get why it's not more popular here.

Breakaway
Miss Independent
Mine
My Life Would Suck
Never Again
Heartbeat Song
Mr Know It All
Love So Soft

Kelly would be getting dragged for being boring/generic if she’d put out songs like Long Way To Go, Last Call, Lost Cause, Feel Something, Our Song or Just Say I’m Sorry nn I love P!nk and I enjoy Trustfall but it’s definitely not an album that should be used as some kind of benchmark.

Mine ranks firmly at the bottom of her singles discography. After the initial "omg new Kelly that's not Christmas or covers" effect wore off it showed itself to be such a non event of a song. Sure she sounds great on it, but this is Kelly Clarkson, that comes as no shock. It needs more than just good vocals.
