Kelly Clarkson

I like Long Shot much more, but I Do Not Hook Up was the smarter single choice. That said, I really wasn’t a fan of Howard Benson’s production on quite a few of the songs on that album, Hook Up being one of them.

It still baffles me that the title track, one of the weakest options, was the last single even though they weren’t planning on giving it any promo dd. If I Can’t Have You would’ve had much more of a shot.

If I Can’t Have You was going to be the 4th single. Then it was suddenly switched. My guess is she didn’t want it because of Tedder and got her way… but at a price, since there was zero promotion for All I Ever Wanted.

I feel like I am in the minority that loathes My Life Would Suck Without You - such a shit song, her vocal on the chorus is so noisy, the production is shit and it felt like such a cheap attempt at a Since U Been Gone moment. The fact its her only number 1 single here in the UK irks me to no end!

Thankfully the rest of the album was smash after smash after smash.

Already Gone would like a word.
I forgot about “Halo” pt2 (kikikikiki), yes that’s a great one too.

As long as we know it’s not that horrid “I Do Not Hook Up” (or the other ones). She made the right choice in only including “Life Would Suck” and “Already Gone” on her greatest hits album as representation.

Also, if “Suck” reminds me of any song it’s “About You Now”. Same sentiment and just the same feel.

At the time they were released I probably would have argued that My December was better than All I Ever Wanted but I think with time the production issues of My December have just become too present for me and it takes away a bit of enjoyment for me.

I feel like she actually experimented quite a bit with her sound and aside from Already Gone, Ryan Tedder was a great collaborator for her… Save You is gorgeous.

He/Him
Did Clive just block My December from being mixed and mastered out of pettiness? It really doesn’t sound good. I deal with it because the material is strong. But I’d love a proper remaster at some stage.

About 50% of that album could've been singles.

It's still a headscratcher that A). there were only 3 and B). two of them flopped hard. Radio 1 was all over I Do Not Hook Up.

It's weird though because she was teasing it on Twitter after that drama went down and she still sounded excited? Weird.

I think there was just a lot going on in the background with All I Ever Wanted that worked against it. The controversies over Halo/Already Gone (and to a degree, If I Can't Have You/Fly on the Wall), media fixation on her weight, leftover baggage from My December, and the presence of some other folks on the charts who were seemingly filling a similar space at the time, between Pink, Leona, and Katy Perry. In a perfect world, that would have been a five-single run, though.

Huh? Do you mean in the UK? Already Gone was a massive AC hit for her in the US (and didn't do poorly on the pop charts either). I Do Not Hookup... underperformed, but I don't think you could call it a total flop.

I think they were referring to I Do Not Hook Up and All I Ever Wanted (which was technically a single).

EDIT: Never mind!

I’m the UK my clear anniversary Meaning of Life vinyl has been delayed until 31/12/23… I’m hoping it’s just that it’s TBC rather than an actual date.
