Kim Wilde UK Singles Rate 1981-2021 NO1 REVEALED RATE CLOSED

That brings us to the early years of Kim for the next track and it is typical of early Kim, great synth and rock as one.

No37 Bitter Is Better
Score 155.00 Average 6.73 Highest Score 10 (YourLeadSinger) Lowest Score 3 (Blaah)

Comments Include

"I know it’s a bit throwaway but I do love this track released especially for a Japanese drink advert." (RaggedTiger)

"How many songs were these Kids In America hooks used for??" (Berserkboi)

"I will never tire of this song. " (Andsov)

"It really isn’t." (DiscoBlister)

I gave Schoolgirl a 9, it's a bright and breezy bop! Love the key change. It's a world away from her angsty early 80s material and signals the arrival of pure pop Kim, my favourite Kim!

Time for the next few to depart the rate, staying with the 80's, it's an attempt at being the Stray Cats which doesn't really work.

No36 Love Blonde
Score 155.25 Average 6.46 Highest Score 9 (RaggedTiger, BubblegumBoy) Lowest Score 1 (Blaah)

Comments Include

"Not a particularly popular song amongst fans but over the years this has grown on me a lot and probably the most obviously commercial song on CACC for 1983 (even if it may not be the strongest from that album)" (RaggedTiger)

"I’ve never liked this, in fact I really dislike it, I always felt like it belonged in 1980/81 Stray Cat revival etc not 1983. Surprised it was a UK top 40 to be honest." (Blaah)

"Not really a favourite -don’t really like the change in musical style-still well sung and produced but not a classic." (CasperFan)

"Kinda good, kinda bizarre a single choice!" (Berserkboi)

"As a kid I always tried to convince myself I loved it, but it’s very annoying. " (Andsov)

"I do have a soft spot in my heart for Love Blonde, but it’s not a song I actively would choose to play. Love the iconic minx in leather look though!" (DiscoBlister)

Next up a newer Kim song from 2018's album, and the weakest of the singles, but saying that this isn't bad at all,

No35 Birthday
Score 157.25 Average 6.83 Highest Score 9 (YourLeadSinger, CasperFan, Berserkboi) Lowest Score 5 (Simes1970, Sprockrooster)

"Kim meets ver Irons, metaltastic" (Blaah)

"Very boppy!!" (Berserkboi)

In defence of Love Blonde (which was one of my earliest Kim memories):

Her dad's background was rock'n'roll, rockabilly type stuff from the late 50 and early 60s so it probably didn't feel like a stretch for Kim to do a track in that style.

And although the Stray Cats (and the whole retro roackabilly thing)'s peak was 80/81, they were still having chart hits in 1983 (She's Sexy and 17) and you also had Roman Holliday etc on the UK Top 40 in late 1983.

"Rage to love" does the same thing in 1985...but it kicks ass - like a male Shaky - full on steroids!

Time for the next 2 to go. This track I must admit was new to me. I do not remember it from the time, it's a pretty good song, lively and one of the better tracks I have heard from Love Moves.

No34 World In Perfect Harmony
Score 160.95 Average 6.97 Highest Score 10 (I'dRatherJack, CasperFan) Lowest Score 3 (Sprockrooster)

Comments Include

"A bit too sickly sweet for me" (RaggedTiger)

"This one was too sweet melodically and lyrically, could have been a UK hit though with an uplifting housey type remix." (Blaah)

"Gorgeous song-should’ve been another hit single. Love Moves… is such an under rated album." (CasperFan)

"Nice sentiment!" (Berserkboi)

"How they went from the brilliance of everything on Close to such cheap production with banal lyrics I’ll never understand." (DiscoBlister)

Our final departure for Monday comes from the noughties, yes Kim has went rock and it does suit her here. Very strong song.

"I always have to get through the first minute to remember how much I love this one. The chorus is classic Kim; melancholy and uplifting and melodic" (Andsov)

"Great track!" (Berserkboi)

"Fine, not particularly Kimmy though, not enough of her stamp" (Blaah)

"Hadn't listened to this for a while. Its really strong song." (RaggedTiger)

I really like World In Perfect Harmony, but even as a kid I thought the lyrics were a bit naff. I dont think Love Moves is very well written overall tbh, but they came back with a vengeance with Love Is.
