Kim Wilde UK Singles Rate 1981-2021 NO1 REVEALED RATE CLOSED

This rate is going terribly for me.

First off, Child Come Away should have been top 10! I'm stingy with my 10s but this absolutely deserved it for being such an impactful and thought-provoking listen (and also just catchy and memorable, sorry to all the ballads but it's true). I was not here when it flopped but surely Kim deserves credit for this brave choice, Child Come Away wouldn't have felt out of place as a Kate Bush single.

Secondly, taste @berserkboi! House of Salome is one of my faves too, deserved much better (as did each of the recent eliminations bar Candy Crush ddd).

In My Life might just be my favourite discovery of the rate. I usually don't click with this style but in this case I had no choice but to levitate!

Pop Don't Stop and Perfect Girl are way overdue from my perspective, so I hope they're not too far off now.

In which case I think we may be pleased over the next couple of days.

Up next it's back to the cover versions and I have always liked this version by Kim, a "bop" as some would say on here

No24 If I Can't Have You
Score 181.80 Average 7.90 Highest Score 10 (WhatKindOfKylie, NanaFan, IdRatherJack, Remorque, Andsov, Berserkboi, MilesAngel) Lowest Score 3 (YourLeadSinger)

"Again, remember hearing her being interviewed on radio 1 Sunday afternoon and this being played. This was the first time I had heard it or knew of a new single that was apparently out the next time. Was therefore shocked when it was a new entry at no.16 the following Sunday." (RaggedTiger)

"Sprightly cover version, with that ubiquitous 1993 house feel." (Blaah)

"A really good cover version but the production style is such a shift it jars with everything that had come before." (CasperFan)

"I do enjoy her boppy version!" (Berserkboi)

"I have no time for The Bee Gees, or 70s disco in general. But I just love this version. She brings something very special to a very annoying song. Well done Kim." (Andsov)

"

Another track I had not heard before doing this rate, once again Kim rocking out and it's good without crossing over into great.

No23 Perfect Girl
Score 181.95 Average 7.91 Highest Score 11 (InvertedButterfly) Lowest Score 4.20 (EpicCjocolat)

Comments Include
"Loved this song at the time. Full of energy. Was nice to hear it played on the recent hits tour" (RaggedTiger)

"On the way to perfecting the latter day Power pop that would grace Aliens" (Blaah)

"Love this-classic early-Kim sound, so happy this was performed on the Greatest Hits tour." (CasperFan)

"Kim did 00s Pop Rock, and did it damn well????" (Berserkboi)

"I really prefer pop-Kim to rock-Kim, and this is definately on the pop side. The verses is a bit meh, but the chorus is massive." (Andsov)

"

As it is Friday I am going to reveal everything up to 21 so up next back to 2018 and a real return to form with a very catchy song.

No22 Pop Don't Stop
Score 182.50 Average 7.93 Highest Score 11 (Blaah) Lowest Score 3 (PhoneticsGirl)

Comments Include

"Great song celebrate Kim and Ricki's love of pop music with nods to Cambodia in the music." (RaggedTiger)

"Surprising rating given Kim’s back catalogue but from the first time I heard this, it got me. A glorious career retrospective in three minutes, probably the best 21st century song by an artist, who is defined (unfairly) by the 1980s." (Blaah)

"Amazing return-to-form comeback single! Love that the album and single versions are so different-love them both equally" (CasperFan)

"Let me hope I am half as iconic as her when I get to this age" (Berserkboi)

"It’s a little too cheesy for me, but they certainly succeeded with what they tried to do. " (Andsov)

And just failing to get into the Top 20 we stop off with Kim's final charting single of the 1980's.Once again pleasant enough without going up a gear.

No21 Love In The Natural Way
Score 184.15 Average 7.67 Highest Score 11 (WhatKindOfKylie) Lowest Score 5 (Sprockrooster)

Comments Include

"Was never overly fussed by this song but thanks to PJ and the recent hits comp and have grown to love it" (RaggedTiger)

"Five was probably a step too far for the public but all five from Close were singles, the only debate was which order. Lovely, swaying ballad." (Blaah)

"Very pretty!" (Berserkboi)

" Close is in my holy trinity of Kim Wilde-albums (alongside teases and dares and love is). Not a dud in sight. This is an amazing chorus, and it just keeps getting better throughout the song. Lyrics are a bit Eurovision though." (Andsov)

Surprised that If I can Have you had 6 tens but has left already at no.24. The average scored in the top 20 must be high. I did think it would out last Love Is Holy, Hey Mister Heartache and Say You Really Want Me but not disappointed it didn't.

Very surprised that something like Say You Really Want Me or It's Here are more popular than the majestically fabulous Pop Don't Stop... very differing opinions on this rate has to be said.

That is the one thing I have found with this rate, all it needs is one low score and the track dropped 6 or 7 places down the list. Having said that though the scores do jump a bit with the track at no21 roughly 16 points adrift of the Top 15. No20 - 30 not much in it points wise.

And that's what makes any rate interesting and fun.

I love all 3 of the of the above. It's Here is special for me as it was the first single I'd bought as a mega-fan (although previously I had bought Another Step, Hey Mister Heartache and You Came). I didn't think it was going to be a hit at the time but due to nostalgia and is general message, I just really love it.
