Kim Wilde

All credit to Steve (RIP - damn you debord!) who e-mailed Cherry Pop about this:

Hi! Steve

This is Mark over at Cherry Red, I'm overseeing the Kim Wilde re-issues. We have bonus tracks on all of them and they basically cover everything she did for the RAK label. We've had a few people write in about the MCA albums so as long as we get a positive response to these RAK reisues then I see no reason why we wouldn't try and get the MCA releases. Fingers crossed!

Hurrah! They're set for April-May.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

It is good news but there's nothing from the RAK years that's not already been released on CD. It's the MCA stuff that's been out of print for years and/or vinyl only.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Yes indeed, but "Cherry Pop" does some of the best audio remastering I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Their "Sophisticated Boom Boom" Deluxe release is immaculate.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Cherry Pop may single handedly save me a fortune this year - releasing Kim Wilde, Mandy Smith, Lonnie Gordon & Princess which have been unavailable for yonks................. Hurrah!!

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Good news.

Although since I own the boxset of the first 3 albums, in those mini-LP replica sleeves, I don't know how much I'll be needing the new editions.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Well done on finding that news! Do we know if the videos will be included on DVD for the first time?

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Fantastic news!

Let's hope all her albums get reissued and my ultimate dream - a comprehensive Kim DVD.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

I have a fan-made DVD but not all of the clips are great quality. I hope we get the real thing someday.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

My friend made me a Kim DVD for Christmas which is amazing and has about 30 tracks on it but the quality isn't great. I can't see an official DVD including Say You Really Want Me, The Second Time, The Touch, Time and Can't Get Enough of Your Love though!

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

I really hope these reissues have all the original artwork or as much as you can when going from vinyl to CD if you know what I mean. Are Cherry Pop usually good at that side of things?

Really hope they can get the MCA ones as "Teases and Dares" is impossible to get on CD at the moment.

I paid a hefty amount for a Mandy Smith import from Japan, so that's not exciting me (unless they throw in some rare extras)... but Lonnie Gordon & Princess? I know nothing about both these albums... are they decent?

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Lonnie's is mostly leftover material for the second Donna Summer SAW album, I believe, but yes, good. Princess is also pretty good but it's more soul-pop than SAW-ultra-pop... you might not be so keen on that one.

Yeah, it's not the typical SAW sound that they went on to perfect a year or three later. There are 4 great singles on it (After The Love Has Gone is so incredibly well produced!), and a couple of other excellent album tracks. But I'd agree that it's more like a very good soul-pop record. I'll definitely be getting it on CD though.

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

I'll be getting all of these albums. I adore the Princess track In The Heat Of A Passionate Moment. I think it was a Top 73 smash...

I'll probably pick it up. Soul-pop is by no means a dealbreaker, even though I like my PWL served disposably plastic.

Anyhoo. Sorry for the thread diversion. Ooh... isn't Stay A While wonderful?!

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

"Stay A While" is wonderful and obscurely was covered by Sabrina Salerno.

According to a post on the kimwilde forum this is the tracklisting for the re-issues...

Further to yesterday's messages - here are the track listings for the reissues:

KIM WILDE - original 10 track album plus 'SHANE' / 'WATER ON GLASS' (7" version) / 'BOYS'

SELECT - original 10 track album (complete with 'Cambodia+Reprise' as one long track) plus 'WATCHING FOR SHAPES' / 'CHILD COME AWAY' / 'JUST ANOTHER GUY' / 'BITTER IS BETTER' / 'CAMBODIA' (7" version)

CATCH AS CATCH CAN - original 10 track album (minus the mastering problems on 'Dancing In The Dark' & 'Sparks') plus 'LOVE BLONDE' (7â€￾ VERSION) / 'LOVE BLONDE' (12â€￾ VERSION) / 'DANCING IN THE DARK' (NILE ROGERS 12â€￾ REMIX) / 'DANCING IN THE DARK' (INSTRUMENTAL) / 'BACK STREET DRIVER'

Great news!

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

Dream Sequence is other-wordly from CACC and most people would never think it was a Kim Wilde track. Can You Hear It is gorgeous too

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

I've not got the original "Select" apart from as a self-made compilation so what is the story with "Cambodia"? Was it just the "Reprise" on the album but then the full version was the single? What an odd way of doing it!

Re: Kim Wilde's first three albums to be re-released!

I'm pretty sure its just the long version on the end of the album (or the Originals Boxset version, at least), because when I was compiling my Kim singles anthology I had to use The Singles Collection 81-93 for the short mix of Cambodia.
