At first I wasn't really looking forward to doing this rate. It didn't seem like many people were excited for it, and a couple friends even told me they wouldn't bother voting this time... but you know what girls? I love a challenge!!! And while trying to spin the narrative around last year's male K-Pop output into a positive I came up this little gay theme.
I know 2022 wasn't as slayful a year as 2021, but even in our lower moments, we still deserve love. And these poor boys are all vying for yours! Yes, I spelled the concept out. The teams this time also reflect the ups and downs of love: the sweet feelings of caring for someone, the burning flame of desire that moves our bodies, and the tears of heartbreak and moving on.
Anyway, this time the playlist is much shorter, for my own (and your) sanity. It's exactly half of KSOTY, and that's probably the size this rate will stay in the coming years (if this forum doesn't end up in KWANGYA soon).
And just to sweeten the deal a little more, I even brought back a beloved side rate that is sure to be of interest of some of you guys, hehe.
Well, we all know how this goes by now, but let's go over the details...
This song list is comprised of the 35 songs that received the most points last year in our KPJ monthly charts ran by @Slice of Life + 15 songs submitted by users via a little game we played.
The song list is divided into three thematic Teams. You must choose one Team to pledge allegiance to when sending me your ballot. At the end of the rate I will reveal which Team achieved the highest average score. Pay attention, it's about the highest average score, not the winning song! The results of this competition will influence next year's Boy Boost submission process, as described below:
The first half of slots will be reserved for members of the winning Team. The next quarter will be available for everyone who participated in this rate. The last quarter of slots will be free for all.
You can choose a Team based on your favorite aesthetics just for fun, or try to go for the one you think is likely to win. I divided them very carefully, balancing each team's chart points, so it's definitely anyone's game!

1.There are exactly 50 songs to be rated, and all of them are obligatory.
One listen of the entire playlist takes 2 hours and 45 minutes, so please try not to leave your listening for too close to the deadline. You should try to listen to everything at least a handful of times before scoring. Maybe even watch the MVs and stages, which are often essential! Give growers the chance to grow on you ♡
2.Rate each song on a scale from 0 to 10. Your favorite song is allowed a score of 11 points.
Half-points and quarter-points (0.25 / 0.5 / 0.75) are allowed. Do NOT rate "on a scale": if your least favorite song is a 4 and your favorite song is a 9, that's fine. You don't *need* to use the whole range. Here's a baseline example of how I personally rate songs:

This rate is both for people that already enjoy K-Pop's male artists as well as people that aren't super familiar but would like to get into them more. But if you find yourself disliking most songs, or trolling, then there isn't much of a point in participating, is there?

In the 2020 edition, I asked you guys to send me a list of your favorite male idol, specifying that it wasn't about looks, but whichever criteria you wanted to use for "favorite". Well, we are throwing that out the window and doing a Hottest Idols rate, in keeping with our theme of love and sex. Because I can and it's gonna be fun! And you can participate even if you don't vote in the main rate!
But that's not all! Since we didn't have a general readers' poll this year, I'm gonna steal some categories and host one as another part of the side rate, hehe. Male idols only, of course~

Send me a PM with a list of the 5 to 15 hottest male idols of 2022, according to you. Only idols that had a proper comeback in 2022 can be submitted. Next to the name of each idol, you must state for which crown you are submitting him to. Each of the two crowns will have its own winner and Top 15.
The King crown is for idols who are generally considered handsome, manly, muscular, etc.
The Prince crown is for the ones who would be described as beautiful, pretty, twink-ish or cute.
I think most idols are pretty easy to place in either crown (Minho fits King, Key fits Prince, etc), but if people end up submitting an idol to different crowns, they will only compete in the one chosen by the majority. Example: if Onew has 4 people submitting him for King, and 6 people submitting him for Prince, and he gets 34 points in total between those voters, then those 34 points will be used to rank him within the Prince crown, which is the one the majority chose for him. I hope that's simple enough to understand!

I’m here, but honestly I’m not excited for a redo of the "losing team" only gets one chance at boy boosting next year. i get that you want to create a competition, but personally the experience was disheartening for me. I was really looking forward to submitting a boy boost to this year but my chances were so low I would’ve had to stalk this thread to get in on the final round when I was finally allowed to participate. And that’s just not possible for a lot of us. I would suggest that if you’re going to keep this competition you reconsider giving an advantage to the second placing team as they didn’t even win anything. Only the first place team gets the advantage. Thank you for listening to my little petition, even if you throw it in the trash ddd.
Anyways I have already chosen my team because it has two of my biases on it. I hope Team Sweet does better than Team Monster last year.

I agree with @ohnostalgia, getting to submit a song for this rate as part of last rate's losing team was a bit of a struggle considering how few spots were available. I think they were all gone in like 5 minutes? I'd say something like batch one being for the winning team, batch two for the people who took part in the previous rate and batch three being open to everyone would probably be a better alternative.
@Glitterizer for potential award categories i think it could be cool to have one based on meme-ability. We wouldn’t necessarily have to choose one moment, but idols who we think gave the best memes over 2022.
