Tonight we are saying goodbye to
Same Scent, the musk anthem by
ONEUS! Man, I’m glad this got a lot of commentary because I honestly don’t have much to say about it. That production style just makes me instantly groan a bit, and when it hits the chorus my eyes roll so far back I can see this write-up struggling to form itself in there!
My fellow lowest scorers all say exactly what I’m thinking.
@askew (0.75) is blunt:
“I don't have the patience for this.” Very that.
@eccentricsimply (2.5) elaborates:
“This song sounds dated in the worst possible way. That chorus drop is just... this could've come out five years ago and it would be a better fit then - and I still wouldn't have liked it!!” Oop!
@Attis (4) makes a comparison relevant to our next rate:
“Ain't this that BTS song” Blood Sweat & Tears sweetie, I’m so sorry.
Many have taken issue with the chorus specifically:
@enjoy (5) says
“This drop chorus happening in 2023... No ma'am.” It does sound very passé.
@MmmDani (7) also complains:
“The instrumental drop cheapens it a little for me.” On the other hand,
@boom bazooka joe (8.5) stans a bit despite saying the same exact same thing:
“The synth in the chorus kind of cheapens what otherwise is a very sleek, moody, sexy bop.” Well, to me the worst problem is that I also don’t like the chorus melody, it’s so flat and repetitive… Sorry to be a hater, but I loved the last title track I heard from them (LUNA) so this was disappointing!
@Wills (8.75) comments on that:
“This year was always destined to feel like the comedown from their terrific 2021, but tracks like this and Stupid Love prove they're still among the most reliable 4th Gen acts”
@chrisjche (7.5) mentions their achievement:
“This is just OK for me but good for them for finally getting a music show win!” @Christopher (8.5) is not tired yet:
“Tropic Kpop? Yes please.” I’ve had just about enough of it!
@Untouchable Ace (9.75) doesn’t really say much of anything positive despite the high score:
“k-pop is supposed to be cutting edge, but at least Oneus completely make this drop synth work. the whole instrumental hook beat is what all music on the radio sounded like 5 years ago. unless they are calling this a throwback, things are happening too fast.” ONEUS stan
@Salami (10) wants more:
“It's like a perfect mix between A Song Written Easily and Twilight. I need them to have that big song that blows them up because they deserve it.” It does sound like a song written easily
*insert RPDR shady noise*.
@Slice of Life (10) says:
“stupid love outsold but this is also very good!” Me watching BTS for the first time because I wanted to know what was so good about the act that was threatening Gaga’s #1.
