Sorry besties, I won't have time to do an elimination today. Work is kicking my ass. I promise to comeback with an equally disappointing reputation, but with two eliminations tomorrow. (Probably.)
Sorry besties, work was such hell yesterday that I felt like I got hit with a ton of bricks all day and could barely stay awake. So, while we don't get 2 elims -- here's one at least! And to apologize ....

Today we say goodbye to “Bet Bet,” the lone entry from our gone but not forgotten oppas, NU’EST. “Bet Bet” was the title track from Happily Ever After, the boys 6th mini album. The song was written by members Baekho and JR, along with Woozi’s live-in producer husband Bumzu, and produced by Royal Dive. The song was a decent sized hit for the boys, going to #14 in Korea.
“Bet Bet” was released in April 2019, over 2.5 years after their previous mini in late 2016. In early 2017, lead vocalist Minhyun participated in the second season of Produce 101, placed 9th, and ended up debuting in the group Wanna One, along with notable members Kang Daniel, Daehwi and Woojin from AB6IX, and my two ultimate baes, Bae Jin Young from CIX and Ha Sung Woon. (Justice for “Sneakers” in the 2021 Boys Rate, you beasts!)
NU’EST is a group that I know barely. I generally enjoy what I hear, and despite frequent thirsting over Baekho, I’ve never really dived fullly into them. IDK. Something hasn’t totally clicked with me for them yet. And well, since they disbanded, I doubt it ever well. But I’m never going to be mad when a NU’EST song pops up in my world, for whatever reason.
I gave “Bet Bet” a 7. I like it I do. And I’m not quite sure why I don’t like it more. There’s a lot about it that works. I’m a sucker for good vocals, which we get in abundance. I’m a sucker for sexy, moody bangers like this. I’m a sucker for the concept. Apparently, “Bet Bet” is what is described as the final chapter of the “Three-part Knight Series,” which started with one of their 2016 releases. I love the knight/royalty/wicked magic type vibes in the video (Think WayV’s “Phantom” or GFRIEND’s “Apple”).
There’s nothing that I actively dislike about the song, but I guess the melodies and production simply don’t grab me that ferociously to stan beyond going “I like this!”
Salami decides to drag our himbo king Baekho. ”I hadn't heard this before and I don't know any of their names so the blonde guy from the MV who sings the chorus - his voice is kind of annoying.” Repent for your wicked ways! Meanwhile, Joli Chat remembers what’s important about the blonde: ”I thought “giving it a high score cause baekho is hot is unfair” but then again visuals are important in kpop, so whatever I’m doing is valid for real.” Glitterizer, who won’t see these posts anymore (come back bestie!), opts against thirsting for one second to understand talent: ”baekho vocals are so iconic, like, that's father…” I have been known to call him daddy!
Christopher continues to baffle me a bitsy with the way he describes songs: ”Admittedly, ballads are a tough sell for me…and “bump ’n grind ballads” usually even tougher. I was hoping this change into something that would prove an exception, but alas…it remained exactly what I thought it was from the jump. Not my cup of tea. (Random observation: the repeated whistle riff is very close to interpolating “Whistle” by Flo Rida…)" Between describing half the playlist as mid-tempos and then this – bestie I promise any song with a BPM slower than poppers o’clock is not considered a ballad, but live your truth!
leedlelee… remembers the real enemy: PLEDIS. ”Fuck PLEDIS…I miss these guys so much…” They can rot! MmmDani also recognizes the slay of Baekho’s chorus: ”Beautiful chorus. I really like the second verse.” Slice of Life gives backhanded compliment: ”I MISS U OPPAS OMFG PLS RETURN TO ME BECAUSE YOUR SOLO RELEASES ARE MOSTLY SHIT!!!” Now bestie, how can you say that when “Elevator” and “Hidden Side” just came out last year?!
And finally, I’m so sorry chrisjche for losing your 11! ”Everything I want in a boyband song and video. I miss them so much!”

Next 2 eliminations:
- One group who has been unscathed so far lose their first track. Is it GOT7? SHINee? NCT?
- One of our groups gets wiped out for good. Is it BTS or Stray Kids?
