No way SMiLEY beat this... like, I'm actually shqqk. The single effect is in full force! But yes, tonight, we say goodbye to one of Yena's two rate entries, Pretty Boys. Pretty Boys is taken from Yena's first solo mini album, ˣ‿ˣ (SMiLEY). It was written by Ahn Young-joo (MUMW), Jo Ye-A (MUMW), Yena and 72 and composed by Tobias Näslund, Kirubel Swedin, Jonna Hall and Maria Marcus.

As most of you know, Yena was a former member of the now-defunct girl group IZ*ONE. And after the group's disbandment in April 2021, there were rumours that she would become a new member of Everglow (both Yena and Everglow are under Yuehua Entertainment). But nope, Yena debuted solo in January 2022 and Everglow remained in Yuehua Entertainment's dungeon. I had no doubt that Yena would slay as a soloist since she was one of IZ*ONE's most talented members but even I was shqqk when she released such a winning debut album. Talk about debuting with a bang. The fact that she had Pretty Boys and Lxxk 2 U as album tracks? Only album tracks? The audacity. The talentry! @Yuehua Entertainment, you could have made these songs as Everglow singles instead! I'm so annoyed.

But let's put our focus first on Pretty Boys because whew, this song is a smash. Just the way Yena sings the first line ("boys, boys, boys...") already made the song at least a 9. It's so cunty! And then here comes the emotive pre-chorus that leads to that catchy as fuck chorus... it's just slay after slay! The rapped middle 8 kinda doesn't work for me but it doesn't really diminish my enjoyment of the song.

I still can't believe that this and Lxxk 2 U are not singles to be honest. And now that we have heard Yena's follow-up singles to SMiLEY, it stings even more. But I'm not giving up on Yena just yet. She's too talented to flop just like that! I know she has another Pretty Boys in her. Please unleash it soon, unnie!

Let's go to what you girlies have to say! I know boom bazooka joe is celebrating this elimination: "Does nothing for me in either direction." ohnostalgia likes her choruses more bombastic: "I get what they’re going for, but I keep wanting and expecting a more upbeat and energetic chorus." And aux kinda spills?: ""LxxK 2 U" was the real slay on this album. Shame she hasn't dropped anything since!" Well yes, I agree. Lxxk 2 U is the one for me as well!

The MaxPrint is undeniable, Attis says: "Putting her best Ava Max wigs." clowezra simply calls this: "BANGER." Exactly! Crisp X has one request: "Still waiting for the French remix feat. Clara Luciani." vague slaps this a 9 and calls it: "this is her best song so far - by far!" And eatyourself gets to promo IZ*ONE yet again!: "I want to kiss whoever superyena'd this one, an instant classic! Ahh IZ*ONE you are eternal!!"

eliminathan... a whole IZ*ONE anti... stanning a song by Yena?: "Me almost superreviving an ex IZ*ONE member's song after years of commenting on how none of them can sing to save their lives, whether that's growth for me or growth for her is up for debate but this song is great!" It's more likely than you think! soratami showers Pretty Boys with praises: "Not just the best b-side of 2022, but also better than most other girls’ titles. That’s talent." And I'm afraid this rate has failed your wish, Vixen unnie: "Another 11-contender, I fear… Are we ready to have the conversation that this is infinitely better than 'Smiley'? Let's manifest this in the rate actually. I need 'Smiley' to leave earlier than 'Pretty Boys' does."

Let's hear what Pretty Boys' Superreviver, KimLippington, has to say about the song: "Company dumb as hell for reducing this to b-side status then coming back with SMARTPHONE??? Then following that up with LOVE WAR??? Worms on the brain. Excellent song. Fav b-side of the year."

And finally, we have thommyh who gave his one and only 11 to Pretty Boys: "So sad Yena’s career went off the deep end after releasing this, her being investigated by the EPA for irreparable damage to the mother lake and the Office of Kuntenserven seizing her assets really did a number on her."

My scores missed off Smiley but I love it and gave it a 10. I’ve probably said this before but it literally helps me get over my fear of take off while flying so much because it’s so happy? I put it on repeat at full volume and it just takes me away.

Wow, from three songs, Rocket Punch are down to just one. Tonight, we say goodbye to the gorgeous, the fabulous In My World. In My World is taken from Rocket Punch's fourth mini album, Yellow Punch. It was written by Le'mon (153/Joombas) and composed by Zaydro, Farm (ELDORADO) and Perrie. Although not an official single, In My World got performed a few times by the girls on music shows. I guess Woollim Entertainment knew that this song deserved to be promoted as well! Wow, that's one of their few great decisions so congrats to them!

The Yellow Punch mini album was one of the my favourites of last year and it's mainly because of the one-two punch of Chiquita and In My World. These two songs are really some of Rocket Punch's best. I was obsessed with Chiquita first but nowadays, I think In My World is the better song. There's just something about that bouncy-as-fuck 80s production that speaks to me. I'm probably gonna be stoned for saying this but I really think In My World is the better yassified version of Rocket Punch's beloved 2021 single, Ring Ring. This is the sequel to Platonic Love by Snuper that I was waiting for forever!

As always, I'm obsessed with the chorus. And why not? The chaotic energy it exudes is so contagious. I can literally feel serotonin exploding inside me whenever that chorus hits. I'm also here for the rap section that immediately follows the first chorus. And of course, we can not forget that life-affirming middle 8. The fast talking + the high note? People died! I really should've given this song a 10, goddammit!

Again, Woollim has yet to announce a Rocket Punch comeback for this year and it's painful! We need Rocket Punch to serve us more In My Worlds, so please, let them out of the dungeon already! It's been nine months since their last comeback FFS!

Okay, before I lose my temper, let's go to your comments. bbynewyear, who has been a low scorer in the last 10 of 14 eliminations, successfully kills another fave of mine!: "We gonna need a new take on the 80s sound idk, its getting too procedural for me." You will pay for this, bestie! boom bazooka joe is firmly on Team Chiquita: "A cute little sister to their much better rate inclusion." aux gives this just a 6.5 but stans: "I love the production on here."

clowezra is thankful to be reminded of In My World's existence: "An absolute slap of a banger, can’t believe I almost forgot about this!?" ohnostalgia is maybe lowkey stanning Rocket Punch?: "Rocket Punch was on a roll in 2022, weren’t they!?" vague will always be here for the 80s: "i do love a good '80s pastiche, so this scratches that itch quite nicely." And I really like this description from eatyourself: "Yukika on speed!" You spilled!

The Weeknd gets shaded by Mx. soratami: "Invented 80s music and ended The Weeknd in one fell swoop." It's what he deserves, kii! In My World is a special treat for ultraviolet: "This one is special. It blends fun and nostalgia in the most pleasant way." And we shall end this post with probably the biggest Woollim stan of KPJ, none other Wills!: "They really gave us the best title track/b-side combo of the year, these girls deserve the whole world."

Well, that was quite a flop elimination judging from the (non-)reactions.

The culling of Superrevive Songs continues tonight as we say goodbye to Not In Public by Summer Cake. Not In Public is the title track of Summer Cake's third single album. It was written by Park Ki Tae, Summer Cake and Shannon Bae (Pristin's Sungyeon!) and composed by Park Ki Tae, Summer Cake, Matthew B. Parker and Shannon Bae. Finishing in the upper half of the rate? Not bad, truly not bad for this nugu kween!

Summer Cake (or Kim Min-kyung) has actually been active in the K-Pop industry at least since 2016. She was a member of the pre-debut girl group Mad Color (which rebranded to HIGHCOLOR the same year); she was still known as New-A back then. In 2017, the girls appeared as contestants on the wretched reality survival show MIXNINE where Summer Cake finished 16th overall. HIGHCOLOR was only able to release one single before Summer Cake left the agency, effectively disbanding the group. She then joined another reality show, The Voice of Korea 2020, where she placed fourth (I think she used the moniker Classy on this show). And that's really the start of her solo career. She made her debut as Summer Cake in December 2021 with the single Love Villain. The single Not In Public was released three months after. Whew, we love a good character study!

I'm pretty sure Not In Public was my introduction to Summer Cake and wig, what an introduction it was. Not In Public is kind of pop perfection? The beginning of the song will always be memorable to me because to me, it sounded like something LOONA Odd Eye Circle would release. Like, a Kim Lip solo or something. I was ready to stan! But when the song properly started, I was shqqk once again. This is an entirely different beast! First of all, that voice, oh my god! It sounds so crystal clear and quietly confident. And yes, sexy as fuck as well! Hearing her voice for the first time is genuinely a religious experience.

But that voice would be a waste if the song didn't hit and thankfully, it did. It did and so much more. I love the minimalist, expensive-sounding production. My favourite part of the song is the post-chorus, I guess? It's where Summer Cake sings "I love you, babe. I wanna say it. I want you babe, babe. Aseul-aseulhage neoege." The way she sings those lines is just magical.

After Not In Public, she has then released a plethora of singles namely, All Eyes On Us, Help, Potion and Fine. I highly, HIGHLY recommend y'all to check out the Potion single album. It's only a three-track album but the quality is topnotch. Hopefully she finally she releases her debut album this year. It's time, unnie!

Let's go to the comments. Only Salami left a negative review so let's celebrate that!: "I like this girl, she looks like fun. I do not like the song too much unfortunately. It's not bad, it just doesn't excite me. Very one-note. And I'm sure that's the point, but I'm too used to explosions and drops now, normal is hard to tolerate." And lemme put bbynewyear's comment here too just because it's not as gushing as the rest, kii!: "Eventually all songs will evolve into Ghost Town DJs 'My Boo'. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you."

"Wait... this is kinda hitting,"
aux realizes and yath boo, get into it! I think it's safe to say ohnostalgia is obsessed?: "I’ve gone and downloaded her entire discography on Apple Music. Thank you to whomever submitted her to this rate." roblognick joins the Summer Cake Obsession: "I discovered Summer Cake last year and love love love her!" soratami does not waste time and promotes Summer Cake's other bops: "Underrated chanteuse. Not In Public is fantastic but we need the girls to stream the rest of her discography as well."

askew gives in to that voice: "Kinda my favorite voice on this ballot." chrisjche too: "What a nice vocal tone!" vague is vibing: "super smoov n very pleasant. i really like her vibe." TéléDex also surrenders to the power of Not In Public: "Well, I seem to have allowed it to simmer from when I was put this girl on my 'they were heard' pile when listening to her, usually it's only a little lower than my score here. It's alright, now that I opened up to this song."

"Summer Cake is such an exciting new voice in K-Pop!,"
boom bazooka joe proudly declares. "Her Ciara serve was a year end highlight!" And this comment by clowezra is so, so relatable FFFFFF!: "The biggest rate discovery for me, it’s songs like this that make me genuinely fearful that there are tons of small k-pop acts I’ll never get to discover that have phenomenal tunes like this tucked away. This is flawless!" That's the main reason why I continue making those Slice of Releases playlists, kii! I can't miss out on ANYTHING!
