2012.
Ten years ago.
But for some of us, it seems like it was just yesterday.
The 2012 version of Slice of Life was a totally different person. I was then a struggling Accountancy student who only subsisted on a diet of junk food, Facebook, pretentious arthouse movies and K-Pop music. And speaking of K-Pop, 2012 was the first full year of me as, uh, a K-Pop stan. Although I discovered K-Pop back in 2009 thanks to 2NE1, I only fully accepted that K-Pop is not just a phase anymore in late 2011. It's probably for life.
It was also in 2012 when the drama Reply 1997 came out. Set in 1997, the series follows female high school student Sung Shi-won (played to perfection by Apink's Eunji), who idolizes boyband H.O.T, and her five high school friends. As a teen, Shi-won was obsessed with a boy band. Now 33 years old, Shi-won and her friends are reviving their memories at their school reunion.
And let me tell you, I fully made Reply 1997 my personality for at least six months after its showing. Back then, I was already an avid Korean drama fan but my obsession with Reply 1997 was different. Tell me why I spent hours and hours reading online reviews of the show instead of reading my accounting books... no wonder I failed a few subjects. And it proved to be not just a phase either. From then on, I followed all the dramas that Director Shin Won-ho made and every single one of them lived up to my sky-high expectations, the quality doubling with each new effort.
But Reply 1997 will always be the most special to me. It's the only one I have rewatched so far and I must say, it still holds up incredibly well. Yes, that includes the gay representation! And I will say, I do find the main character, Sung Shi-won, more relatable today than when I first watched the series back in 2012. I'm maybe not as crazy as her as a fan of a K-Pop act (debatable, I know) but I love how she was portrayed not as a caricature but as a fully-formed character.
So I think it's only right that I pay homage to the year 2012... and I would love for you to join me in this journey.
Let's honour the past and celebrate the present. The future can wait.

That's right, oppa-deul and unnies. It's KSOTY season once again!
But let's settle some things first. I am here to make it clear that:
♡ The #KSOTY2022 Rate is the main rate.
♡ The #KSOTY2012 Rate is only a side rate.
The #KSOTY2012 Rate, the side rate, will be explained here.
In this portion of the post, let's only talk about the K-Pop Song of the Year (#KSOTY2022) Rate.
What exactly is the #KSOTY2022 Rate?
It is a yearly rate where the people of the K-Popjustice subforum gather and rate 101 K-Pop songs released this year and decide which one is The Best K-Pop Song of the Year 2022.
How are the 101 K-Pop songs chosen?
They are chosen through these procedures:
♡ 60 songs are taken from the monthly K-Popjustice Charts. These songs placed in the top 5 of the charts.
♡ 40 songs are submitted by you, the voters, through a process called SUPERREVIVE. It is explained in detail in the next post.
♡ 1 song is submitted by me, @Slice of Life, the host of this rate.
How are we rating these songs?
By rating all 101 songs on a score of 0 to 10. The complete set of rules is explained in this post.
Alright, I've said enough for now. Let's get down to business. Let's go!
