Our second T-ara song! This is their first single of 2012, literally released on the second day of the year, the immaculate Lovey Dovey! This, this was the song that cemented my love for T-ara. Actually, it was the zombie version music video that specifically made me fall for T-ara FFFFFFFFF! Like, it was so ridiculous, I had no choice but to stan! But camp music videos aside (the drama version is literally 20 minutes long HGADHSGDH), the song is marvelous in its own right. I'm pretty sure Shinsadong Tiger sprinkled a dangerous amount of crack in that chorus because it just won't leave your head even after just one listen. And the production is just crazy. I mean, cowbells, anyone? Iconique. The performances are just as crazy too. The iconique shuffle dance... Eunjung being forced to perform while she's injured. Kim Kwang Soo, you are going to hell! But chaotic era aside, Lovey Dovey as a song remains a triumph and I'm glad it ranked this high on our rate!

The way this was voted by 19 (!!!) people - more voters than 10 of the 14 songs left - and yet it still couldn't crack the top 10... brutal. But placing in the top 15 with this level of competition is still very, very admirable so congrats to miss A! This is the sensual and slick Touch. Back then, this seemed to be such a departure for miss A to me. I don't know; I just felt like it was so unexpected especially coming from the bombastic Good Bye Baby (still my favourite miss A single). And I would be lying if I said I wasn't mildly disappointed by it. Forgive my basic ass taste back then FFFFFFF! I was young, ok!! But as a rabid Say A, I gaslit myself to stanning Touch by watching all the music show stages and it was very effective, I have to say. But now in 2023, I can wholeheartedly say that Touch is one of miss A's best releases. Maybe it was just too ahead of its time, ha! Like, I can genuinely see acts like LE SSERAFIM releasing this song now. That's how well Touch aged. To me, Touch is miss A's best era in terms of concept and visuals. I will never get over that album cover and those dresses that looked like bandages FFFFFFF! Iconique!

AHHHHHH my fave EXID song ever! For some reason, I thought this would flop? Thank fuck it didn't! This is the wonderful, the perfect Every Night. The way this song has at least three versions (that I know of)... kinda iconique. Every Night is actually a rearrangement of the track Call, which was on EXID's first mini album, Hippity Hop. And in 2015, another version called Every Night - Version 2 was included in EXID's Ah Yeah mini album. And you know what's even crazier? Every iteration of the song is perfect! But it's the single version that's my favourite for sure. It's the first EXID song that really captured my attention and while the group has released a lot of excellent singles since then, it's still Every Night that owned my heart. It's just so good. I think what I love the most about Every Night is just the very understated production - not boring though. It's the perfect backdrop to the vocal slayage of Solji, Hyerin and Hani. Come to think of it, EXID truly has one of the best vocal line in all of K-Pop. And in Every Night, they showcased that fact the best.

This was safely in the top 10 at 22 voters but voters number 23 to 44 completely changed the script. In the end, 4Minute's Volume Up settles at number 13 which is still such a slay so congrats, unnies! Ooh, I have so many great and a few not-so-great memories attached to this song FFFFFFFFF! First, this was such a statement song to me and made me re-apply for my 4Nia stan card after destroying it during the Heart to Heart/Mirror Mirror era, kii! Like, they really were on a mission when they unleashed Volume Up to the world. The song is sexy but sophisticated and it finally showcased the crazy vocals of my girl Jiyoon!! No more HyunA and Others allegations!! I do remember being so disappointed when this didn't win a lot of music show trophies. They lost A LOT of those trophies to Sistar's Alone which was totally fair since Alone was such a hit too. But I was a bigger 4Nia than Star1 back then and I remember hating Sistar for "stealing" 4Minute's wins HJAGGFJHSGFHJG!! But anyway, that's all in the past!! A lot of 2nd gen acts have been reuniting and making comebacks and while I'm hoping 4Minute follows that trend, I'm not really holding my breath. Do the other members still hate HyunA? I hope not! Let's do a comeback this year, unnies!

Our second highest charting boy group single is none other than SHINee's Sherlock (Clue + Note)! Congrats, oppars! As you might have guessed from that title, Sherlock is a mashup of two songs, Clue and Note. Apparently, it's considered K-Pop's first "hybrid remix" which... slay! My first memories of this era are the, uh, interesting teaser photos FFFFFF! Google them at your own risk! Thankfully, the teaser photos had little/nothing to do with the actual product. Sherlock (Clue + Note) is sophisticated and actually not messy for a mashup song. Clue and Note were the perfect songs to be mashed up. My favourite thing about the song is, of course, the booming chorus. The phrase "I'm so chorus, yeah" is now forever tattooed in my mind. And it's also the way the vocals are delivered in the chorus. Very confident, very strong but never unpleasant to the ears. But that's to be expected from SHINee's very strong vocal line.

Anthem of a generation, 9Muses' News, had to settle for 11th place. So sad! But let's not focus on the negative. Let's instead celebrate this life-changing bop and how it just doesn't fuck age. Like, seriously, this sounds like it was just released yesterday! Kweens of classiques! The 9Muses x Sweetune team-up was genuinely one of the best things that came out of K-Pop and it hurts that it'll probably stay underrated forever... unless those Korean kids suddenly discover 9Muses and makes them trend on TikTok or something. But I digress. News was one of the many, many masterpieces that came out of the 9Muses x Sweetune machine. This may not be my most favourite but honestly, it's still a 10/10. That's just how good it is. The 9Muses girlies still hang out sometimes and are very friendly on social media (well, except maybe Sera) so I'm always gonna be hopeful for a possible music release. Please bless us with something this 2023, pretty unnies! I don't think Sweetune is busy so they might be able to give you a bop! Kii!

Macsun: Talk about serving fish and fierceness for days. Their debut stage had to be the gayest thing on Korean TV at the time.
