And the final song to miss a spot in the Top 40 is none other than Jamie's Pity Party. Oh what a... pity! Kii! Pity Party is one of two singles released by Jamie in 2022. It was written and composed by Ryan S. Jhun, Sean Fischer, Paris Carney and Alida Garpestad Peck. The song didn't enter the Circle Digital Chart but it did appear at number 59 on the component Download Chart.
For the unaware, Jamie (aka Park Jimin/Jimin Park/Jamie Park) is actually a former JYP artist. She was discovered on the season 1 of the reality show KPOPSTAR and because she won the whole thing, she got to decide to sign with SM, JYP or YG Entertainment. She chose to sign with JYP Entertainment on May 2012 and she made her debut with Yerin Baek (!!!) as the duo 15& a few months after. She released a few solo singles under JYP Entertainment before leaving the company in August 2019. She has then released various singles under Warner Music Korea (including Pity Party) before leaving the agency earlier this year.
Okay, that's enough introduction to Miss Jamie. Let's now talk about Pity Party because whew, this bop came out of nowhere! I liked Jamie's previous singles but none of them really made an impression on me, you know what I mean? Like, they are nice and Jamie sung them all beautifully but I feel like the material just wasn't solid enough. It didn't match Jamie's talent. Pity Party, I feel like, is the first Jamie single that successfully showcased her capabilities and her personality. This song is just... so Jamie. This should be the blueprint for her career!
The production of Pity Party is very Future Nostalgia. Dua Lipa's influence on K-pop should be studied at this point but yes, I'm someone who's still not over this sound so you bet I ate this production up! But it's Jamie's vocals that really bring the song alive. She sounds simply phenomenal. I listen to singers, I very rarely listen to people who cannot sing and all that! I can actually imagine a lot of other female K-Pop artists releasing Pity Party. It's very catchy and could've been a big hit in the hands of a more popular act. But I bet very few of them could sing this song as beautifully and as cuntily as Jamie.
Jamie released a mini album months after Pity Party called One Bad Night. There are some great songs on it like Bedtime Story, Girls and Honesty (0822). Let's hope she releases something as great as Pity Party this year too!

Crisp X calls this: "One of the most underrated songs of the year." ohnostalgia stans: "I adore her."
"Hmmm what is this?," Joli Chat hmms. "I like it mmhm." Pity Party is also a new discovery for soratami: "I’d never heard this before and the first impression I got was it sounds like it could smash in PJSC, hmm…" Wills kinda drags the chorus but still gives the song a perfect score: "I'd only heard an excerpt of the chorus, which, in isolation, doesn't do this any justice. Fantastic!"
