Slicey, thanks so much for this. I forgot how much I love KSOTY time.

I've been kind out of the mainstream kpop focus this year, really more focused on underground folks like didi hann and jue and b!ni and Silly Silky (why name change?) and artists like that. Am /loving/ all the info you add.

I started a KPop only twitch channel now, and will let you know when it's ready. You all can see how fucking old your Cotton Oppa is. LOL

The last time YooA competed in a #KSOTY Rate, she managed to send a song into the top 20. That was in 2020 when her song, Diver, ended up at number 19. She's not as lucky this time around as her lone rate entry for this year, Rooftop, crashes at number 93.

Rooftop is the lead single of YooA's first single album, Borderline. It was composed by Song Heejin and MOGT with lyrics written by Seo Ji Eum. Rooftop did not enter the main Circle Digital Chart but it did peak and debut at number 27 on the component Download Chart.

As a (former??) huge ass Oh My Girl stan, it's really annoying to me that the group takes LIFETIMES to make their group comebacks. Thankfully, we have Miss YooA to distract us with her well-timed solo endeavours. With three solo efforts now under her belt, I feel like she has really blossomed as a soloist and found her lane, so to speak. I will say, however, that Rooftop is my least favourite of her solos. But that's only because I have come to expect such greatness from her. Rooftop is still good... but we know YooA is capable of so much more.

I really like the early 2000s overall vibe of Rooftop and I think it's a sound that YooA should exploit more. She sounds right at home. I also don't mind her rapping? I mean, she's not, like, amazing as a rapper but it's a nice little new addition to her arsenal. I do agree with some of the comments that the chorus is severely lacking. I feel like it belongs to a different song? I don't know; it just never fully clicked with me. She should've chosen Love Myself as the single instead. Now that's a song with a stomper of a chorus. I'll link the song below just because hehe~

THE JURY'S THOUGHTS:
@mika (3): "This is hard after Lisa"

@eccentricsimply (5): "Everything she has released since has been so inferior to Bon Voyage."

@ThisIsRogue (5): "The chorus is Meghan Trainor coded." [Slicey: NAURRRR, Rooftop's chorus isn't the greatest but it is NOT that bad!]

@savilizabeths (5.5): "There are so moments where her vocals sound really pretty but other than that, this isn't clicking. There's something off about the chorus for me."

@boom bazooka joe (6): "I'm a sucker for a Pizzicato string but that's pretty much the beginning and the end of my enjoyment of this one."

@codecat (6.75): "It's kinda empty, especially after Selfish. Isn't the point of a chorus...to take a song somewhere?"

@BEST FICTION (10): "GIVE HER MORE SOLOS PLEASEEE" [Slicey: Kinda iconique to me how the other members don't get solos ASDJFKSDGFKSDH!!]

@love choerry motion (10): "The best person from that flop group slays once again" [Slicey: Now don't disrespect OMG like that gurlie or @Salami will kill you!]

@soratami (10): "I know basically everyone is going to mention Namie Amuro in the commentary, and well, I don’t have anything else beyond that they’re completely right. YooA absolute ate." [Slicey: FFFFFFF well no one mentioned Namie so thank u for mentioning ha!]

I thought this would hit the mid 60s at least, no wonder no one called for it.
This elimination genuinely made me do a double take. I thought that would for sure make at least like the top 30? This rate is absolutely wild.
I did a little recheck of my spreadsheet because these posts got me nervous FFFFFFFFF but yeah, I think what ultimately killed Rooftop is its lack of higher scores. Majority of the scores it got are in the 5 to 7.75 region.

The way I thought everyone saw Rooftop as a big Namie-esque serve but 90% of people were just like "...it's cute I guess" dd. Still, I can't believe that didn't even make it past the bottom 10. This group of voters is really not beating the "picking scores at random" allegations.
