Our first of two Loossemble songs crashes at number 76. I... didn't quite expect this especially for a group as beloved in the subforum as LOONA. But yes, tonight we say goodbye to Girls' Night.
Girls' Night is the lead single of Loossemble's second mini album, One Of A Kind. It was composed by Wkly, Justin Reinstein and JJean with lyrics written by member Hyeju. Girls' Night did not enter the Circle Digital Chart but peaked at number 91 on the component Download Chart. That makes it their highest charting song on the said chart.
I feel like Girls' Night is way too over-hated to be honest. In my opinion, it's just on par with Sensitive so I don't get why a lot of Orbits (especially on stan Twitter) seem to hate it so much. I also think this sounds like a natural progression from the sound they explored with Sensitive... maybe just a little more feminine but nothing too crazy.
Loossemble songs will never feature vocals as good as, say, ARTMS' obviously because the Loossemble girls are not exactly the strongest of vocalists. And to be honest, I still hope - rather delusionally FFFFFFF - that one day, Chuu will feature in one of their singles just to have some main vocalist moment, you know? With that said, I think the vocals on Girls' Night are quite decent. Hyunjin even does a pretty flawless high note to end that middle 8. Slay yes mama! I do hate the rapping in the second verse though, kii! Like, there was no need for that at all.
Could Girls' Night stayed a little longer in the competition? Sure. But the competition is tough and we are now in that stage where songs deemed "good but not great" are bound to get eliminated sooner rather than later. Thankfully, Loossemble still has one song left, TTYL, which we'll hopefully not eliminate soon! Fingers crossed, you guys!
THE JURY'S THOUGHTS:
@eliminathan (5): "MODHAUS are going to hell for taking all the vocalists..."
@mika (5): "Damn forgot to listen to that album" [Slicey: Listen to my He Said I Said, which is my fave album track from the One Of A Kind mini, bestie!!]
@Serg. (5.5): "Them not being in sync at all during dancing parts like did they film this in one take? If so then impressive!" [Slicey: FFFFFF I hate that I won't be able to unsee this now!!]
@boom bazooka joe (6): "Some nice throbbing synths through the chorus but it's truly the only memorable part of this song for me."
@Salami (7): "I mean this in the nicest way possible - this sounds like something Mamamoo would've done years ago." [Slicey: If that's the case, then why didn't you give this a higher score, bestie??]
@aux (9): "They were having a mother off"
@codecat (10): "WE LOVE YOU LOOSEMBLE!!! Those synth chords in the back of the post chorus...THE NEVERENDING CHORUS. The song being so HAPPY and dreamlike at the same time but still so punchy. Such a good song! I'm gonna miss them!!!" [Slicey: Let's hope they're not disbanding, sister!!]
@love choerry motion (10): "You can't go wrong with a song about girls being girls"
@roblognick (10): "Good old fashioned sounding Kpop music!"
@savilizabeths (10): "It may be my least favourite Loossemble title track but it's difficult to pick between three perfect songs, right?"
@Vixen (10): "It still kills me that this is essentially all five of LOONA's sub-vocalists and they're easily out-singing many 5th gen girlgroups ddd. Hell, lowkey just compare how Hyunjin is EATING that highnote in the bridge to, say, Heejin's highnote on 'Flower Rhythm' dddd, how the tables have turned! Honestly this is very fun and it might actually be my favorite titletracks of theirs still, even if I know most people prefer 'TTYL'. It's just so groovy and filled with hooks. It's very 2nd Gen-transition-to-3rd Gen in a way too?" [Slicey: So many 5th gen girlgroups to attack... but you chose ARTMS... I see right through you, unnie!!]
