(It's the first tripleS song I actually enjoyed, thanks to this rate I also got Midnight Flower, quite an improvement on last year's)

It's funny stanning tripleS as a lapsed nctzen because they are perennially haunted by polarization and the same few talking points: Worst of the year. Best of the year. Not their best. The one good thing to their name. Dullest shit ever. Rate discovery. Too many members. All the music sounds the same (replace noise with bland). The parallels draw themselves.
I don't think they will ever find success on this forum because there is no consensus on what a good tripleS song is or should be even amongst fans. Which sounds like an indictment but is actually a testament to having the richest and most diverse discography of their gen 4.5 cohort. They would be my second superbloom if I didn't have the knowledge that an increased presence would hinder their overall perception and my objectively correct bests would be collapsed into a throwaway quip about nothingy sameness. At least @Slice of Life has the decency to dedicate paragraphs to their anonymous and pedestrian vocals every chance they get. Yes, drag 22½ of them! Even so I count my blessings, better to be snidely tolerated than completely ignored I suppose.

This is a statement i never agreed with. It's true TripleS has weak vocals overall, but to say only one or two members can sing is a stretch. After watching a lot of their content, I will

Yes, most of them fall under the "sub-vocal" label but I refuse to read once again they are a vocal black hole. Besides, the way their songs are produced don't help at ALL. They seem to constantly use a common method in Kpop where a member's vocals are layered over another, which gives them an off-puting tone sometimes.

Honestly I think the issue with TripleS isn't so much the (small) amount per say of members in the group who can sing, because it's not really that egregious in the bigger picture of K-Pop, but it's more so the (large) amount (by default of the group's size) of members who cannot sing. Not every group is going to have powerhouses on top of powerhouses, that's absolutely normal. But looking at @ultraviolet's list who's already looking at them through a fan lens, there are 14 sub-vocalists? Fourteen?! Of course that's going to impact the songs in some ways when you gotta accomodate for fourteen girls who know very little about singing, as opposed, to I don't know one to five of them.
I will say, for what it's worth, that I do think Dahyun gets a bad rep due to the group she belongs to. But like... she can clear a lot of main vocals, especially her peers. The girl can sing, let that be known!
That being said, it's always funny to me seeing Shion being branded as a main vocal because, like...are we not going to aknowledge that she is literally Gowon in a wig dddd.... Like that's (one) your main vocal(s)?

Sparkle is a track taken from ARTMS' first full album, <Dall>. It was composed by hymax, Daniel Kim and Oona Muurinen, with lyrics by members HeeJin, Kim Lip and JinSoul and Jaden Jeong. Sparkle didn't enter the main Circle Digital Chart but it did peak at number 156 on the component Download Chart. For an album track, that's actually pretty cool! I feel we can also call Sparkle a promoted b-side or something since it did get a few live outings.
I think Sparkle has now emerged as my favourite album track from the <Dall> album which I definitely didn't anticipate. I remember quite being meh about this song. Maybe I saw the 2:30 runtime and just immediately wrote it off as TikTok-pandering or something, kii! Which leads me to my next point... I'm actually gagged that despite the criminally short duration, Sparkle managed to be a full song. It's got verses, pre-chorus, chorus, fucking post-chorus, middle 8 and final chorus! Kweens of efficiency! Ooh, don't make that face, @LE SSERAFIM! Learn from this instead! That's how you make a full song!
I would love to talk about the stunning production but since we're all talking about vocals today... let me give the spotlight to the vocals of ARTMS on Sparkle instead. I mean, what kind of sensual vocal delivery? I'm obsessed! It's rare for all members of a group to be able to contribute almost equally on a song but that's exactly what ARTMS achieved here. And they make it look and sound so easy. I have to give co-MVP honours to my girls Kim Lip and JinSoul hehehe~. JinSoul injecting flavour in that second verse and Kim Lip sprinkling the loveliest ad libs to end the song... those are my mothers!
I already promoted ARTMS' latest single, Burn, so intead, let me promote ARTMS' new tour on this post FFFFFFF! They'll play Vancouver, Canada in... the next 48 hours, I think? And then they'll tour six European cities in May. Get your tickets now! Do it for me because ARTMS seems allergic in touring Asian cities, bye!

Sadly I don’t have any 10s, but I’ve got loads of 9s from this list. Taeyeon, ARTMS, Sooyoung, XG or Kwon Eunbi I wouldn’t be mad if they made the top 10.
Official is my biggest discovery of the rate, so it needs to stay until the final 20 at least.
