After 53 eliminations, it's finally time for RESCENE to lose their first of four songs in the rate. The victim? My sweet, sweet darling Pinball. Tragique!
Pinball is the second single from RESCENE's first mini album, Scenedrome. It was composed by Andreas Öberg, Maria Marcus and Felix Back, with lyrics written by Pa Ran (153/Joombas), Sun Hee (153/Joombas), Im So Hee (153/Joombas), Woo Seung Yeon (153/Joombas), Na Jung Ah (153/Joombas), bay (153/Joombas), Alphabet (153/Joombas), Lee Joo Heon (The Muze), Derful Kim (The Muze) and Andreas Öberg. Unfortunately for Pinball, it was totally eclipsed by her sister Love Attack so I don't think it appeared on any major weekly chart. A song for the arts and not the charts? Exactly!
I think this is the perfect time to introduce RESCENE as this is their first song to be eliminated... so lemme do just that. RESCENE is a girl group that debuted in 2024 under The Muze Entertainment which is totally a nugu agency. RESCENE is the only act currently under them and before RESCENE, they only had one other artist called CherryB, who is a soloist. RESCENE immediately made an impact... maybe not on actual charts... but definitely here on the K-Popjustice subforum. In 2024 alone, they sent three songs in the top 5 of our monthly charts (YoYo, UhUh and Love Attack), with Pinball also hitting top 10. Personally speaking, they are truly my rookies of the year. No other rookie act's music made my heart (and ears!) flutter the way RESCENE did in 2024. To think that a no-name rookie group under an equally no-name agency could release music that sounds this good... it was almost too good to be true but it's definitely true. We're not hallucinating this!
Pinball is my second most favourite song of RESCENE and it was definitely in the running as my choice for my Superbloom Song. Thankfully, I didn't have to do that because @KimLippington unnie chose it instead! We love a tasteful legend! No but even before Pinball got released, I was already a fan of RESCENE's music but this song... this right here was what made me laminate my RESCENE stan card. I was... simply shaken to my core on my first listen and I never recovered even today. Every time I listen to this song, I still get the rush. And whenever I listen to it, I always have to focus and, like, do nothing else but listen FFFFFFFF! This is a song that demands full attention and I oblige every single time. It's what Pinball deserves!
While I think Pinball sounds like a natural progression from the music RESCENE released during their debut era, I have to say it does sound like a more mature take on their sound. It reminds me so much of Red Velvet's more Velvet offerings. And you know me, a huge Red Velvet stan, so anything that sounds vaguely like them is automatically a winner in my book. The production, the vocals... girls, even the harmonies is giving Red Velvet. I mean, that harmonized chorus? I know a Red Velvet-inspired chorus when I hear one! Obviously, RESCENE does not have a vocalist on the same level as Wendy but you know what? I can forgive them for that. They still sound great and that's what matters. And they're so young so I know they'll only gonna improve from here.
I would've really loved for Pinball to go on further in the competition simply because it deserves to... but, meh, I can't really be that mad when RESCENE has four songs in the top 50 while others are huffing and puffing to send even just one to the upper half of the rate, kii! When my favourite RESCENE song gets eliminated though... I can't promise I'll be this chill about it, hehe~
