Kylie Minogue - Extension: The Extended Mixes (Dec 8)

The other month on Radio 1, Greg James asked someone who had dialled in to pick a song to play. She suggested a Kylie song. He was completely taken aback, said something about her being obviously not a Radio 1 act but he did play it.

Be great if Padam Padam forces a rethink and they select the songs on the merits of the songs alone and not the age of the artists.
Greg James when I catch you...

What did she request? If it was anything from Golden or Disco, Greg James' reaction doesn't surprise me.

Since my last post a few days ago, been really soaking in the geniusiness (not a word) of this whole song/campaign.
Firstly I studied music production so listening to the track in details reveals amazing plucky bassline, the rhythm of the Padam being a beat before the kick...creates a cool rhythm. It's bloody epic.

The video is perfect for all bases, as it's weird enough to be cool but not too 'out there' for casual Bobs. It's neutrally cool, by anyone could 'like' it without seeming to lose any credence with their peers, similar to Can't Get You... The 'Padam Padam' memes really work and again can cut through past Kylie casuals and into the mainstream, causing them to check out what the fuss is about...and then come to the perfect track.

It really look plausible that this could breakthrough to mainstream pop culture, the red iconic outfits and video will help and I think could 'stick'. Only time will tell but I would be more surprised if it didn't.

I think the only thing I dislike about this package so far is that the video uses that same diner that is in every music video ever.

Don’t get my hopes up! It would be incredible wouldn’t it.
I hear you but it will be a hit and here's why: the song needs just one thing for it to become a hit and that is for people to hear it. It's that strong.

The danger with a Kylie song in 2023 is that they won't hear it, because radio won't play it, it won't be shared on socials, etc. But we can already see at this very early stage that it's being picked up by major radio networks in the UK and Australia - including stations that haven't touched her in years - and it's taking off on socials. Once it reaches a critical mass of listeners, it will explode. I have no doubt about it. To put it in theatrical terms, we're on page one of Kylie's third act.

The last time I just knew she'd have a big hit was CGYOOMH. I have exactly the same feeling now.
