Kylie Minogue - Tension Tour 2025

I didn't do this before the tour started like I usually do, sooo...taking this opportunity to post some fanfic (based mostly on what was actually performed, same number of live performances, two more interludes):
I don't even think the songs she's included are bad choices, Monday Blues aside, but I just think the structure of the show on paper is a bit messy

Can we separate people who have actually seen the show from the usual Trojan trolls? The reviews in the media have been highly positive. Like, what is up with the incessant need for doom mongering.
You'll find many of the doom merchants are hardcore members of Say Hey. Their expectations have been bigged up by outright lies about the tour for months from their resident self-proclaimed 'insider'. This person has no connection with Kylie in 2025. He worked with her (very briefly) in the 1990s and she hasn't touched him with a barge pole since. He's also rabidly right-wing and hates trans people, migrants, Muslims, vegans and is a Brexiteer - but that's another story.

Kylie's got lots of goodwill right now, so it's understandable that after a 7 year wait many fans were expecting to be wowed by her return to touring.

The production is in line with what Kylie's been doing, and she will always put on a stellar show. But there seems to be a lack of something inspired, or different, beyond the opening diamond. Where are the moments that can be shared across social? How does this tour link back to the Tension albums, other than in name?

It's missing any sort of storytelling, so that's why it's reminiscent of a festival set – something Kylie's exceptionally proficient at. But with a headline tour, we want more.

The contrast between a reviewer in the media and an upset forum gay over a white chair really points out the absurdity.
This is hilariously true

Maybe she doesn't want to tell a story this time. Maybe she wants the focus to be on the songs. Maybe that's the story.

Personally, I'm happy for a break from the glitter and feathers.

Reviewed in the media generally aren’t paying their own money to see her though. Fans who fork out potentially hundred of pounds to see Kylie deserves a show that is worthy of the price point. A bare stage with uninspired costumes and no real structure isn’t.

This is certainly your opinion.

I am sure thousands of people walked out of that arena in Perth thinking the show was great!

Shrugs!

It's true that reviewers aren't paying out of their own pocket to see a show. On the flip side, reviewing shows is their job, they see LOTS of shows and they're more impartial than forum stans who've worked themselves into a frenzy because Kylie didn't emerge from an oversized clam shell.

KylieX2008 had a "bare" stage and it was one of her most electrifying shows. She's nearly 60 and she's still hoisted up the ceiling for you. With lasers, dancers, massive screens and whatnot. And she doesn't even need it. The Studio Moross aesthetic is not totally for me, along with the green dress, but I appreciate how free she looks and sounds. The tickets are still reasonably priced for everything that she brings, foremost her star quality.

Snort! F*cking funny! Love it!

I’m sure they did. And I’m sure people left not having a good time either and people who were on the fence beforehand might also be out off by what they saw. Guess what? Both valid opinions to have.

The way this thread is now mainly people getting uppity because a minority of people aren’t enjoying the visuals of the tour. Ridiculous.

Can't imagine expecting a Kylie show in 2025 to be anything besides just a fun time. Sure, I don't love the songs she's performing at the b stage (selfishly) and a lot of my favorite tracks are missing...but I think we're all in for 90 minutes of joyful pop music from the most effervescent woman on the planet.
90 mins? I was expecting 2 hours but maybe you're right, it is 90?

You can have a fun time listening to the music at home through your speakers. The point of a tour is to bring these songs to life and create a show around them, no? Nothing about what we have seen of this show suggests that. This is Kylie we’re taking about. There’s a certain standard that she set for herself when it comes to shows.

I think there's a base line of quality that comes with a pro like Kylie but...I don't think it's unfair on her to expect a bit more given the scale of the tour and the prices. Like she's effervescent and lovely and a capital C Capitalist pop star in recent years when it comes to fan's wallets and I don't think that should be controversial to say.

I don't get the set list issues though I must say, it's about the perfect balance

A 56 year old woman who's been doing this since the 80s, survived cancer, and has consistently been an underdog is still going - to some places for the first time ever - and we're complaining there aren't enough bells and whistles. She's not even charging Beyoncé/Taylor prices either.
