Kylie Minogue - Tension

The biggest paradigm shift with physical-led artists is that the album release day is almost the end of the album campaign now, instead of just the second phase of it (after phase one - the lead single). Instead of further single releases and a tour to sustain an album over 12-18 months, the challenge now is to extend the album beyond the pre-order charting week.

I have no idea what she performed in Dubai.

She did Spinning Around, Better the Devil You Know, Wow, In Your Eyes, Slow, Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Kids, I Should Be So Lucky, Locomotion, Especially For You, On A Night Like This, Magic, All The Lovers, Love At First Sight, and Dancing.

That’s pretty much her “Greatest Hits” selection, give or take a few changes.

Also, if stuff still isn’t ready she might not even do a new song, who knows. I know it was originally rumoured that it was her plan, but that was in press articles months ago and things might have changed.

But does the whole album have to be completed for her to do a new song?

In the studio today (?) with Karen Poole and Gerard O’Connell who she worked with on Heartstrings and Mighty Rivers. More recently he worked with Dua on Hotter than Hell, and stuff with Joel Corry and Kamille.

Looks like she's really belting out that song.

Oh definitely not, but we don’t actually know when the first single is even due. Only vague hints to January, which is now obviously not the case. We’ll just have to watch this space and see what happens. It’ll kick off when she’s ready.

I'm expecting the lead single to either be released before World Pride and included her set or not released and excluded from her set. I don't imagine that she'll debut the lead live before its release.

World Pride is a Friday (night).

She should release it 9am GMT on the Friday via UK radio and AUS radio, then perform the song a few hours later in Sydney.

Based on the release dates of Disco's singles, it'll probably come out on a Thursday.

Personally, I feel like dropping the single the week before her World Pride set would be the best move. A week will give audiences enough time to familiarize themselves with the new single.

Performing a new song in front of an audience not already familiar with the song doesn't always deliver the strongest results. Some people didn't initially get "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" when Kylie first debuted it on the On A Night Like This tour.

Yes I heard in 2001 on the On a Night Like This tour, some people used the new song as a toilet break.
Little did they know it would go on to be her biggest song.
I saw two of her On a Night Like This concerts, and I danced my butt off during the new song, but casual fans - not so much.

Take it with a pinch of salt but some random user from SayHey is saying the new single will be out before World Pride Sydney. What makes me believe him is that he is not a new user and hasn't trolled before.

Well that gives Kylie about 4 weeks to release a single.

The Sydney gays better roar when she comes out. I saw Kylie do Sydney Mardi Gras in 2012 when she opened with Aphrodite, the roar of 10,000 gay men was deafening!
I didn't see Kylie perform at Sydney Mardi Gras in 1994 (What do I have to Do) and 1998 (Better the Devil you Know).

I think Kylie and BMG managed this wonderfully with Disco and Golden. They kept us fed for months after the album releases. Every other week there was a little something: videos, single edits, remixes, new editions of the album...

I think people forget that between Jan and October 2021 all we got were a few Real Groove mixes. There was a 10 month gap where basically nothing happened 2 months after the album was released until the rerelease came.

Weird, I really do remember it differently. Was it the same with Golden?

Yeah, the Disco era essentially ended in March 2021 with the release of the Studio 2054 Initial Talk Mix of "Real Groove," which arrived two months after the "Real Groove" Remix EP in January. There was the radio edit of "Dance Floor Darling" that was sent to radio at some point, but never surfaced anywhere else.

There was the "Starstruck" remix in May and the "Marry The Night" cover in June in the gap between Disco and Disco: The Guest List Edition, so it felt like Kylie was more present at the time, but the Disco era essentially ended at the end of 2020.
