Kylie Minogue

I really enjoyed DISCO. It brought us the mighty Say Something and the closest thing to a dud is the still-decent Monday Blues. I still use a few songs (e.g. I Love It and Celebrate You surprisingly) and I still think it’s a great body of work. Clever, clever move after Golden, showing everyone she hadn’t forgotten the dancefloor. However, I’ve tired of the album and it happened pretty fast by Kylie’s standards. But it’s fine; she made me appreciate a genre I never liked, if only for a limited time. She has tremendous sensibility.

It’s wild that twitter memes actually got me checking her full discography for the first time. Anyone got any recommendations for good in-depth interviews?

I might get in trouble for this, and I've loved this woman since I was in single digits, but I don't think she gives interesting interviews at all. But, I think that's... with intent. She's beloved by the general public and the industry and I think that's resulted in her taking a very sensible, but cautious approach to interviews. Dolly Parton has taken a similar approach over the years (though, of course, Dolly has a sharper and naughtier sense of humor which adds some color to her interviews.)

She does Graham Norton interviews well as he's quite naughty, there are other people on there as well and apparently the guests are supplied with alcohol before the show!

I don't disagree with you, tbh. Kylie is notoriously private and that's okay. She first came to fame during an era where it was still possible to maintain distance between you and your fans.

Most interviews tend to return to the same talking points. Light Years was her hot pants. Golden was the trip to Nashville. And Disco was her stint as her own vocal engineer.

Your best option would probably be her documentary, White Diamond.

Yeah, Kylie’s not an interview artists - she’s too careful with what she says. Didn’t the British press in like 1989 roast her pretty hard for some well intentioned but naive comments about the environment? But I do think she’s less guarded with interviews in other countries.

I love this one that she did for the launch of Disco, it’s about the album but I liked hearing her talk about disco music since it’s been a source of inspiration for 90% of her career. It should be on Spotify if the link doesn’t work.

Continuing on my Kylie journey and just listened to Impossible Princess for the first time. It's not what I expected from Kylie at all, but it was such a great listen.

The whole vibe of the album really suits her. I didn't feel the need to skip at all but my favourites would have to be Too Far, Say Hey, Limbo and Dreams.

I've always wanted some more atmospheric music from her similar to Confide in Me and this is kindve what this is, I really enjoyed it.

The Kylie Minogue album is next on my list!

(I'm turning into a bit of a Kylie stan lately, I fear)

Top 3 are all basically perfect and can switch positions depending on my mood. 4-6 are all near-perfect and only have one or two skips. Aphrodite is consistent but lacks the highs of the albums above aside from All The Lovers and Get Outta My Way. Kiss Me Once has some amazing material but also some that's among her very worst (Beautiful). Rhythm of Love has an amazing run of singles while the album tracks are a cut or two below but it's still her most consistent PWL album by a big margin. DISCO just lacks the oomph to get more listens from me. The bottom 4 I barely ever return to outside of the singles or some key tracks (Turn It Into Love, Enjoy Yourself, Radio On, Lost Without You).
