Kylie Minogue

He/Him
I’m really looking forward to the Hyde Park show, it’ll be the first Kylie gig since Golden I have attended and into double digits for the amount of times I’ve seen her now which is just nuts.

Like @Cowboystyle said above I'm never any less exited no matter how many times I’ve been to her gigs, and because this has been the longest gap I’ve experienced between her last show to the upcoming, and how much I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the present and previous albums/eras, to put it simply I’m as ready as I’ve ever been for Hyde Park. Also really glad fellow PJer @Chris-Jae Is coming too with my partner & I.

We can’t get Kylie out of our head and now we know why…

Ahead of being awarded the BRITs Global Icon accolade this Saturday, PPL can exclusively reveal that Kylie Minogue has amassed 230 million seconds of UK radio & TV airplay in the 21st century, the equivalent of being played for seven years straight. The phenomenal ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ makes up one year alone, almost 20% of Kylie’s total UK airplay.

we can’t get kylie out of our head and now we know why…

The success of recent viral sensation ‘Padam Padam’ is clear, coming in at number 12 with less than a year of airplay under its belt and already overtaking big hitters such as ‘Come Into My World’ (14), ‘Slow’ (16), and ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ (17). ‘Padam Padam’ makes up 2% of Kylie’s total airplay and has already been broadcast for over 4 million seconds.

Kylie’s top 10 UK airplay in the 21stcentury

1 Can’t Get You Out Of My Head
2 Spinning Around
3 Love At First Sight
4 In Your Eyes
5 Kids (with Robbie Williams)
6 I Believe In You
7 All The Lovers
8 Wow
9 Red Blooded Woman
10 Better The Devil You Know

AI is the devil, but I just found this on YouTube and it’s quite interesting. It’s an AI Kylie version of Toxic, though with some elements of Red Blooded Woman. This is totally how I imagine the song would’ve sounded had Kylie kept it:

he / him

Listening to this makes me realize that "Toxic" ended up in the right hands with Britney Spears. The juxtaposition of Britney's lower register during the verses and her falsetto during the chorus is what makes "Toxic" what it is.

During the time of Body Language, Kylie was all about her upper register, which wouldn't have given the song the light and shade that it needed.

I would have loved Kylie to have Toxic for a world conquering moment, but Toxic was meant for Britney. It couldn’t have been anybody else’s song. Though that Red Blooded Woman inspired mix makes a lot of sense.

Fixed that…..

Oh, yes - Toxic absolutely went to the right person. I don’t think anybody could’ve sold it like Britney did.

I'm still hoping for a medley of all of her lead singles. Something like:

In my imagination
There is no complication
I dream about you all the time

I should be so lucky
Lucky, lucky, lucky
I should be so lucky in love
I should be so lucky
I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I

Hand on your heart, hand on your heart
Hand on your heart, hand on your heart
Oh, look me in the eye
And tell me we are really through

Put your hand on your heart
And tell me it's all over
I won't believe it 'til you
Put your hand on your heart
And tell me that we're through, ooh, oh

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Our love wasn't perfect, I know
I think I know the score
If you say you love me, oh boy
I can't ask for more
I'll come if you should call

I'll forgive and forget
If you say you'll never go
'Cause it's true what they say
It's better the devil you know

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Ooh, yeah
Word is out over town

I stand in the distance
I view from afar
Should I offer some assistance?
Should it matter who you are?

Confide in me
Confide in me

Stick or twist, the choice is yours
Hit or miss, what's mine is yours

'Cause everyday is all there is
In my some kind of bliss

Spinning around, spinning around

Baby, baby, baby
You know you like it like this
Oh, baby, baby, baby
You know you like it like this
Oh, baby, baby, baby

I'm spinning around, move out of my way
I know you're feeling me 'cause you like it like this
I'm breaking it down (I'm not the same)
I'm not the same (I know you feel me)
I know you're feeling me 'cause you like it like this

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

There's a dark secret in me
Don't leave me left in your heart
Set me free
Feel the need in me
Set me free
Stay forever and ever, and ever, and ever

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

I just can't get you out of my head
Boy, your loving is all I think about
I just can't get you out of my head
Boy, it's more than I dare to think about

Knew you'd be here tonight
So I put my best dress on, boy I was so right
Our eyes connected
Now nothing's how it used to be, no second guesses

Slow down and dance with me, yeah, slow
Skip a beat and move with my body, yeah, slow
Come on and dance with me, yeah, slow
Skip a beat and move with my body, yeah, slow

Oh, oh, oh, don't let go
Oh, oh, oh, don't let go

Yo oh oh oh
Yo oh oh oh

When I got my back up against the wall
Don't need no one to rescue me
Because I ain't waiting up for no miracle
Yeah, tonight I'm running free

Into the blue
Into the blue
With nothing to lose
Into the blue

Can't stand still
I won't slow down

When I go out, I wanna go out dancing
Ah ah ah ah, ah ah ah ah
When I go out, I wanna go out dancing
Ah ah ah ah, ah ah ah ah
I wanna go out dancing

Say something, say something

Tell me how you're feeling

And then "Padam Padam" in full.
If she was a troll she’d do Padam Padam in full three times with a bit of CGYOOMH.

Surprised On A Night Like This wasn't in the top 10 too.

I thought the same but I wonder if radio switched to "Kids" quite quickly at the time (only a month of difference between their release) and also "On a Night Like This" probably doesn't get much love from those stations that replay the oldies (crumbled into dust when I typed that) from 20-25 years ago for being a bit heavier dance and it probably doesn't get much play from the equivalent dance stations for being too pop.

That said, I'd put money on it being #11 on that airplay list.

Speaking of Kids, it's funny how the release of that single was a Robbie one in all but name. The album version from Sing When Your Winning being used plus all B-sides on both CD singles, were Robbie only tracks. I guess it was because it was his label that handled the single release, but shame it was nothing Kylie related for her fans too. Aside Kids itself obvously.

I think it would have been nicer to have a Kylie CD and a Robbie CD where each artist had their own b-side and/or remix and brand aesthetic on the artwork but I suspect the Official Charts Company would have split the sales. But also, from EMI's point of view, Robbie was a superstar, Kylie wasn't one (again... yet) and Robbie had regular massive single sales under his belt over the previous few years - "Rock DJ" sold 199,000 in its first week compared to "Spinning Around" on 82,000 and "On A Night Like This" with 51,000. Kylie's sales weren't particularly stellar until that single in 2001. Making it a Robbie lead single makes sense from a mid-2000 perspective.

Didn't think of that, guess that was perhaps the main reason. May have peaked lower than #2 if they had done.
