Kylie Minogue

As if to cement my long-held belief that streaming services hate me, the Mad March Hare mix of Better The Devil You Know is now unavailable on Deezer. What kind of filth is the message 'This track is not yet encoded'?

Both were missed opportunities as singles. Speakerphone was the obvious lead single on X.
Not in a million years. It would have done worse than 2 Hearts.
The One or In My Arms were the best choices for the lead. Both classic Kylie enough for the public to lap them up. The former had the benefit of being produced by one of the biggest up and coming names too.

"In My Arms" shoulda been out in the summer of 2007 and the album should've followed the second single. 500 UK Kylie gays downloading the demo leak is nothing in the grand scheme of things, we all had "Umbrella" two whole months before you could buy it here. Instead, Calvin Harris got his start via his association with her, and she was on the backfoot by the time her song with him actually came out.

Was In My Arms meant to be the lead single? I can remember when it leaked (I’m so old) and that was the talk at the time but I never knew if that was a rumour or not.

Was it changed to 2 Hearts as a response to that?

The 49-track demo collection was smuggled out of wherever [studio/publishers/management delete where applicable] in early 2007 and five tracks - "In My Arms", "Fall for You", "Stars", "Lose Control" and "Sensitized" - appeared online over the week leading up to Kylie's birthday at the end of May. In response, Parlophone went after some fans who had been known to have distributed some Fever and Body Language demos in the preceding years and threatened them with legal action, rather than just running with it and harnessing the positivity from the material. I don't think "In My Arms" was ever confirmed to be the lead, but it was likely in the running, as was "The One".

The rest of the X demos dripped out in batches every few years, some in 2010, then a few more in 2014 (exact same day Kylie's Reddit was, and I actually asked her how she felt about leaks, and she replied), and then the whole lot finally surfaced in mid-Janaury 2017.

Ah that all sounds right, I can remember it better now. I remember Peter saying In My Arms was his favourite from the leaks on the front page, maybe it was that I’m thinking of.
