Sorry, but I find "Breathe" overrated. It's in my bottom three songs from "Impossible Princess", acutally. I know that it aims for softness, but it's feels way too light and not moody enough to make up for that sound, especially given the soundscape of the album. The melody doesn't do much to me, either - it's a bit too undefined and the chorus just plods along. The production is excellent and boosted my score to a 7. Also, the uptempo single version sounds a bit odd, maybe because I'm used to the album version.
Can't really fathom what causes it to be among the fan-favourites, but okay.

@Hudweiser - 8 The best single from the campaign; I remember this being predicted to land inside the top 10 and was gutted when it only entered at #14.
I didn't know this - funny and ironic how it reached #14 in this rate, too!

"Impossible Princess" is Kylie's best album and it's such a pity that "Through the Years", "Jump", "Say Hey", "Drunk" and "Limbo" didn't get the praise they deserved. All fantastic album tracks, especially the latter two.
Oh, and "Dreams" deserved a top 10 placement.

One of the things I do love, is the diverse taste we all have as Kylie fans. For instance, I adore Breathe, but the likes of Say Hey and Through The Years, just leave me cold. With a fantastic discography as hers, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Breathe and The One were both far better in their original slower album versions, although I do think Breathe comes off worse in its single version.

I only really heard Breathe when I got Ultimate Kylie on release, but it never really clicked with me like Did It Again did, so I hardly went back to it.

However, discovering the album version of Breathe in the rate was another highlight. The single version sounds like someone held the fast forward button too long and just sped it up. The album version fits better with the lyrics. Slow, calm, relaxing...

@mrdonut - 10 A masterpiece and EXACTLY what Kylie needed to do post-Body Language. Yes, it’s a bit The One or a bit All The Lovers or a bit Crystallise but who fucking cares: this has a chorus made in heaven (Maid in England Mix) and even all these years later, the ‘I be-lieve in you / I be-lieve in’ bits in the middle section blow my (pubic) wig off. Throw in the mix some impressively throbbing synths, lyrics that really resonate and that lovely violin at end, and you’ve got a winner.

@Sprockrooster - 10 A single to a greatest hits, that is actually great. A rare exception for most pop girls.
@hawkings24 - 10 Oh such a good song, the harmonies in the choruses are just so unreal.
@Andsov - 10 This is distilled Kylie; Ethereal lyrics, beautiful vocals, melody on point. It's glittery and sugary, but not too much.
@Verandi - 10 The chorus is SO GAY OMG. A home run tho. New York City and those abhorrent tracks from the first greatest hits can only wish.

@Holly Something - 10 A beautiful song, I love the vocals on this.
@M24 - 10 I'm not usually here for Kylie's more laidback offerings, yet this song is both upbeat, sensitive, and sexy (I love her whispers in the chorus).
@CasperFan - 9.5 Stunning. I’d kill for the full albums worth of songs she did with Jake Shears to materialise.

@Untouchable Ace - 6.5 "Sad clown face" at the sad joker that is unpleasantly is all over this song.
@nanafan - 3 I am not a big fan of this. Overplayed and a bit of a nothing. Loving You should have made the album in the place of this as it’s a much stronger track.

It's a lot harder to gauge now that we're over a 9 average, but I thought I Believe In You would be in the top 5.

The number of truly great (i.e. shoulder to shoulder with the classic hits) new songs recorded for Best Of albums by any artist is vanishingly small. It was discussed in another thread and I think we only came up with this, Justify My Love, Outside, One Last Love Song and He's On The Phone.
