Mess. I knew it was divisive, but in no way it deserved to leave so early.
@Verandi was correct, "Nu-di-ty" was the song where my first reaction was:
When I first heard it, I expected to hate it, but I actually gave it a 9 in the end. The way it just takes unexpected twists and turns and made me very intrigued, and the production is all kinds of bonkers in an excellent way. Kind of reminds me of some album tracks from Gwen's "Sweet Escape". Like, it's basically a cacophony and should be bad, but it manages to be excellent and I enjoy it nonetheless. Those outrageous vocal bits, the minimalistic and weird yet punchy production elements, the unconventional melody choices... it all works for me
apart from those rap/sing bits.
Actually, it's in my top 3 from "X", sorry not sorry.
And the revelation that "Nu-di-ty" brought me (and perhaps what made me increase its score a bit) was that one of the YouTube channels I used to listen old French music at, notably France Gall (who is my all-time favourite artist, by the way) is called nounoudydy and actually uses the chopped
"nudity" bit from the song as its intro and outro.
Example:
I've always found the intro amusing, as it was very memorable, and thought it was "custom-made" and now, after about 10 years, in this unexpected turns of events, finally found out which song it is. Kind of feels rewarding in an odd way.
Anyways... how did the snoozefest that is "Someday" and the extremely annoying "The Loco-Motion", among many other songs, outlasted both "I Was Gonna Canel" and "Nu-di-ty"?
Some of her most interesting, dare I say experimental, songs getting trashed among the sea of weaker and much more basic songs. Not deserving at all.
