I've probably said this before, but in my opinion, Kiss Me Once is a great collection of songs, but it's a terrible album. It contains some of her best songs ("Feels So Good," "If Only," "Kiss Me Once," "Sleeping With The Enemy," "Sparks"), some serviceable bops ("Fine," "Into The Blue," "Les Sex," "Million Miles") and some of her worst songs ("Beautiful," "Mr. President").

Her pushing for the release of "Mr. President" was a bit of a misstep, in my opinion, but it does suggest that she wanted to explore that more harder dance sound (a la "Mr. President" and "Skirt") with Kiss Me Once, which is probably the album that I wanted from her in 2014. It's a shame that she didn't push for the release of "Waiting For The Sun" instead.

Where Has The Love Gone? 6.4

Highest Score: 10 x 4 @One Stop Candy Shop, @mrdonut, @Ana Raquel, @Remorque
Lowest Score: 1 x 1 @SophiaSophia

@mrdonut - 10 Gorgeous poolside disco that’s arguably more successful than much of the Fever album. Perfect for sipping a dirty martini to on holiday.
@hawkings24 - 9 Love it but it's so long.
@Andsov - 8 Where Has the Love Gone? has really grown on me the last couple of years. It used to me the weakest link for me, but now I just love it. I really appreciate KM94 for all its different styles.

@Maki - 8 I don't know why, but this reminds me of when Robyn went slightly experimental on her "Honey" album. The monotonous chorus totally works here and I love the thumping beat combined with that piano line. And I find it impressive how even the longest songs on this album don't drag too much.
@M24 - 7 It's catchy, has a great beat, but it's too long and repetitive. Every time the song starts, I want to raise my score and later change my mind.

@nanafan - 4 This is OK, of its time. I find it goes on too long had get bored with it.
@CasperFan - 3 This song outstays it’s welcome by about 4 minutes and really drags the album down. Even if edited into a less meandering length, it’s still not a great song.
@Hudweiser - 3 House Kylie yeah, but it's repetitive and boring.

Mr. President - 5. The backing track is alright.

Christmas Lights - I don't do Coldplay. Sung by anybody.

Where Has The Love Gone - 6. Where has the tune gone? Cut the guy out and make it shorter. I must have given it points for the piano and the beat.

I think the almost 8 minute running time cost this one. Hard to argue, really; as mentioned in the comments, it really doesn't do enough to justify that.

I didn't say anything when y'all were calling for "Where Has The Love Gone," mainly because I didn't expect it to leave any time soon. I get that its run time does seem quite long, especially in 2020 when most songs lean more towards the 2:30 mark, but it's such a vibe, in my opinion. It's like its own extended mix and I do think that the addition of the male vocal elevates it above Julie Stapleton's original.

New week, seems about right...

New York City 6.41

Highest Score: 10 x 3 @SlowGinFizzzz, @Ana Raquel, @Remorque
Lowest Score: 1 x 1 @Andsov

@Hudweiser - 9.5 Unsure if there's an actual Mylo sample here (wasn't he mad at her over his unused X songs?) but either way it goes wonderfully over this song.
@Untouchable Ace - 9.5 Great sample, but a bit behind the times.
@hawkings24 - 8 I'm glad we got a studio version of this song but it's not as disco as the live version.

@Maki - 8 This is better than almost everything on "Golden". It's pretty much a signature Kylie sound with a slight twist and it works. The verses could've been stronger, but the chorus is excellent.
@CasperFan - 6.5 You can see why this was just an off cut from the Golden sessions-still fun though.
@M24 - 5.5 I don't hate it as much as everyone does. The verses are pretty good, and the chorus is decent.

@mrdonut - 5 A disappointing vocal production rears its head again, a real shame after Golden.
@nanafan - 2 Awful. This shouldn't have been the only new track on SBIT. It doesn't work for a 50 year old and is trying too hard to be a pop classic but failing miserably.
@Andsov - 1 The intro is great, everything after that is just horrible. The lyrics are offensively bad. One of her very worst songs.

I don't think anything Kylie's done is 'groundbreaking', which is absolutely fine; it's not the type of artist she wants to be or the type of artist her fans want her to be.

That said, New York City is about as 'will this do?' as she gets - it sounds pasted together from about 10 other (better) songs.

@Crisp X great reference point, Mystical Ninja one of my favourite childhood video games.
It's so underrated. At the time, my brother and I kept getting stuck after the first boss because we didn't understand English and a French translation didn't exist nn. This time last year, I finally got back to it and finished it thanks to an emulator, and it was an interesting experience to say the least. Probably the quirkiest game I've ever played and I loved it. The soundtrack is honestly iconic.

But enough digression, I lost an 11 and a 10. I'll excuse myself for a second to come to terms with that reality.

I know many of y’all will dismiss it, so here I come with a deserved 10. It was an instant favorite at the time, why? Well, Timebomb and Skirt made me falsely believe we were in for a bonkers electro centric album, and I was disappointed when Kiss Me Once gave us none of that (Les Sex excluded, but that song is a mess). It’s… everything I’ve grown to love from other faves in the PC Music realm. I’m reaching I know.

"Where Has The Love Gone?" is great and should've been in the top 100. I can see it being repetitive for some, but the song length doesn't bother me. It's definitely not among the weakest songs from "Kylie Minogue", that's for sure.

I think I overscored "New York" mainly because of it sounding quite refreshing after almost the entirety of "Golden", but it's a great song nonetheless. The vocal production is odd, indeed. And speaking of "this will do" songs, there are several Kylie big singles, let along non-singles, that sound like they were recorded just to fit in, so I don't get what's the issue from that point of view.

Also, when is the "Golden" cull coming? So many weak and bland songs outlasting great and interesting ones.

I recently played through it again via emulator, and its such a fun way to spend an afternoon at home since the game is relatively short. You should check out the sequel to it as well, it's a 2D sidescroller but it's just as fun.

The things I would do for the Kylie album we were supposed to get, built around Skirt, Mr. President, Sexercise etc., with a Brooke Candy collab or two. Whew, I'm in awe just thinking about it! And that's coming from somebody who actually loves Kiss Me Once. The songs themselves (except Beautiful) are pretty much all fantastic, they just don't really work as an album.
