Ladies of 00's poprock - WINNER revealed!

I am sorry for this unprofessional artwork; do not expect much cause I can only work with paint...

Welcome poprock lovers!

Let us appreciate the best albums and songs from an iconic decade in music and focus solely on the poprock genre brought us by the biggest ladies from that genre.

Several ladies will be getting a massive spotlight including our main girls P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Anastacia and Avril Lavigne. But we will look further into this rate to a few smaller known acts. Perhaps you can discover some of your faves right there! Big names doing poprock from that decade are excluded (such as Christina's 'Fighter'). We are celebrating the artists that bring poprock to the table.

Those chosen 4 girls all represent the era in zeroes poprock very well and despite it is sometimes hard to pinpoint a clear poprock magnum opus we will try to do so.

In a pre-discussion the following albums have been chosen:

For these more niche artists it is clear what their tracks going to be (and I am kind of settled on the artist representation here; obviously a big injustice can still be mentioned):

ANA JOHNSSON
We Are
Cuz I Can

ASHLEE SIMPSON
Pieces of Me
Shadow
LaLa
Boyfriend
Little Miss Obsessive

BONNIE MCKEE
Somebody

FEFE DOBSON
Everything
Take It Away
Don't Let It Go To Your Head

A comment has to be made here as I got several PM's concerning aspirant voters would love to see more of her in this rate. As I do not know her that well she wasn't initially included but mentioned by @Mina. I feel like giving her 3 songs is doing her justice considering the demand she got. These are apparantly her most fitting or known songs.

LIZ PHAIR
Extraordinary
Why Can't I?

MARION RAVEN
Here I Am
Break You
Heads Will Roll

MELANIE C
Goin' Down
Next Best Superstar

HOWEVER FOR THE NEXT ARTISTS A QUESTION HAS ARISEN VIA PM'S:

VANESSA AMOROSI
This Is Who I Am
Kiss Your Mama
Perfect

Do people want to see Absolutely Everybody included? It isn't necessarily the most poprock song, but that can be said about more songs in this rate. It would be at the cost of Kiss Your Mama.

MICHELLE BRANCH
Everywhere
All You Wanted
Are You Happy Now

Since her discography rate is delayed she is back being included. Not entirely sure if the non inclusion of 'Game of Love' is the way to go. It would feel very out of place in this rate with the latin feel. But do you all agree?

ALANIS MORRISETTE
Hands Clean
Precious Illusions
Eight Easy Steps
Everything
Out Is Through

She was never part of this rate as I do not see her as a zeroes poprock queen (with her big days in the 90's). However @londonrain made a valid point of her still having a right to be here. How many 90's poprock queen were still very active in the zeroes. Well Alanis! We completely disagreed about the song selection (as the first two have my preference as big faves from her and the final three as suggested by @londonrain being more fitting). We could do all 5 of them. If Ashlee can get 5, surely Alanis can get this. Any opinions about this?

Hoping to get some input about Vanessa, Michelle and Alanis!

Discussion is closed and voting is open!

I'm here! Oh my God too many 10s to count, will I just give Avril a 10.0 average, wejustdontknow.gif

As for Fefe, I'm assuming we're straying away from her Joy singles which were commercially her best because it was her 'poppiest and non-rockiest' era? Because "Ghost" and "Stuttering" would be a killer one-two combo for her, if not it's fine because I can cover them in a rate down the road.

I'm happy with the big three from Michelle.

I'm excited to have Marion in a rate as she's been one of my all-time undiscussed favorites forever. I would've loved to have seen "Falling Away" too, but I'm okay with the three we have.

Any rate with the addition of Alanis is only a good thing, so sure why not.

She was never part of this rate as I do not see her as a zeroes poprock queen (with her big days in the 90's). However @londonrain made a valid point of her still having a right to be here. Hoping to get some input about Vanessa, Michelle and Alanis!

I agree with you, Sprocky, that the '90s were Alanis' heyday; my recollection of her in the '00s is that she was seen more as an alternative artist and not a mainstream pop girl like Kelly, Avril, and Pink. She definitely wasn't as mainstream as Ashlee who has the most songs out of the extras. So it seems reasonable to limit Alanis to two or three songs like most of the other artists in the extras section, since this is an '00s pop/rock rate and not a '90s one. I'm not familiar enough with her music to recommend which songs to include or exclude.

I agree with all three Michelle Branch picks.

I'm really happy you've kept Bonnie McKee in! It seems a bit weird that she only has one song on the list (a piano ballad at that) while everyone else has at least two. It's your call - but here are some others of hers from that era that showcase her pop/rock side more:

Trouble (her album's first single - if you pick one more song for her, this is probably the one to include)

January (an album track)

Last To Know over God Is A DJ is a choice but I'll still take part!
Those extra's are more my host picks than PJ faves or big chart sIayers (otherwise there wouldn't be a real bonustrack for Avril).

Alanis will be ser for 5 most likely as that is our current heading of the voters.

Take this with a grain of salt @Sprockrooster as I won't be voting due to too many discoveries to go through but Shine by Vanessa Amorosi fits the bill well and also Maybe Goodbye To you by Michelle Branch...
I fear a lot more songs from many artists fit the bill. Problem is there is way too much good music. If however more people feel that way about the songs you mentioned I am definitely open for changing it (like what happened with Fefe Dobson), but I am trying to limit the extra's as much as possible.

I am happy to inform you and others Trouble will be added for her. A bit weird for her to be only represented once!

WELCOME to the official opening ceremony of the ladies of poprock rate. The setlist is settled. 83 tracks from which 52 are from the 4 biggest names in poprock from that decade. But here to perform is one of the niche artists serving a deep cut, who will not be in this list. But it is a poprock vocal extravaganza very worthy of opening this rate. The floor is for QUEEN Vanessa Amorosi and her AFL anthem 'Start It'.
