@livefrommelbs was the only 11-giver to provide commentary, so the floor is yours “Pop-rock doesn't come much more perfect than this. I'm giving it my 11 because it's not only an absolute masterclass in terms of production, lyrics and delivery (Kelly's vocals are just incredible in this), but because it has the most personal resonance too. One of the all-time greats.” Well, this song is definitely a true PJ darling and definitely one of the greats!
Who knew it was Pink of all people that would turn Kelly Clarkson from a bride into bridesmaid. But it feels so right. I never viewed this as Kelly’s best and was with an 8 the lowest scorer in her discography rate. So I know I am a bit of alone in this. However no lowest scorer this time. That would be weird as a host. And that comment from me is the closest we get from shading this song. As there is nothing but praise from the commenters. An 11-contender for many of you. Including
@əʊæ “
My second choice for an 11. Bride rolling in the mud is that emo aesthetic. The video, in which Kelly serves her best The CW drama demonic character, makes me so damn nostalgic”.
@HollyDunnSomething says “
My only other 11 contender. Just an incredible song and the vocal is insane”. If you both gave it your 11 it still would not have surpassed
Who Knew as it has a 2,5 point difference to tie!
Praise incoming from
@unnameable “
possibly my favourite Kelly song” and
@eliminathan adds to that “This was my favourite Kelly song for the longest time it's so powerful”.
@Untouchable Ace calls it ‘
undeniable’ and
@berserkboi ‘loves’ it.
@Maki is foreshadowing something a bit expected “
One of the highlights on the album. I can see it being high placed in this rate”.
@DJHazey will be pleased with the third rate in a row where this is placed higher (Kelly full discography / Winners Rate) than
Since U Been Gone “
I've always ranked it above Since U Been Gone and figured that was an unpopular opinion until it won her discography rate. As cheesy as it sounds, I connected it to it from the beginning because of my own hazel eyes”. Though do not make
@phily693 choose “
For me this is on par with Since U Been Gone. One of the best pop rock songs of the decade and one of the best songs of that era. The chorus just explodes, you feel the hurt, anger and resentment but it never feels aggressive. The high note at the end of the middle 8 is to die for, truly a moment”.
@GhettoPrincess is doing the lord’s work “
Another pop rock mammoth that I’ve probably praised many times. I will mention (probably again) that I love the ad-libs and how brilliant her vocals are here”.
@Remorque adores this “
A perfect example of how Kelly's vocals can sound subdued and a force of nature in one song. She sounds fucking fantastic and the production clearly helps here. And that note? Honey, your faves could never”.
@Mirwais Ahmadzaï got reminded of this “
Pop-rock Kelly is in full force on this song. I had forgotten what a great song this was until I randomly caught a bit of The Voice where some young rock girl sang this and performed the hell out of it (with Kelly watching)”. That takes guts and one hell of a set of pipes.
@Blond is serving one accolade after the other “
First of all the 1-2 punch of Since U Been Gone/ Behind These Hazel Eyes (or arguably 1-2-3-4 punch of Breakaway/ Since U Been Gone/ Behind These Hazel Eyes/ Because of You) is outrageous. My stan card had already been laminated at this point but then she comes out with this huge song with one of the best choruses of all time and an iconic video. And then there’s that insane ANYMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE note in the middle 8. Probably in my top 3 Kelly songs, which is saying a lot”.
Sprocky’s favourite commentary:
@Trouble in Paradise: “
Look, all I’m saying is a lot of gay brown eyed boys claim to have hazel eyes ever since this album came out. That’s Kelly’s impact. But actually listen to Kelly serve us insane vocals along with devastating lyrics and try not to claim having actual hazel eyes like me and my queen" // Yeah, tell them!
