Ladies of 00's poprock - WINNER revealed!

he/him
I'm honored to get 'favorite commentary' from @Sprockrooster on the top scoring song by his favorite artist. Everyone who said it's the perfect sing along song, especially in the car couldn't be anymore correct because I've done that at least 25 times since this rate began.

Of the three songs, I really wanted Left Outside Alone to win, but I'll be just as happy if Who Knew pulls it out.

THIS WAS NEVER IN THE WINNING SPOT

MEANING THE SONG THAT OVERTOOK LEFT OUTSIDE ALONE

IS STILL #1...

BUT FIRST...

OUR RUNNER UP IS...

Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes

Highest: 11 (@Hurricane Drunk @livefrommelbs) + 10 (@əʊæ, @GhettoPrincess, @phily693, @playboy69, @Blond, @Trouble in Paradise, @soratami, @Sanctuary, @Mina, @AlmostFamous, @2014, @Robsolete, @Untouchable Ace, @Remorque, @BEST FICTION, @Oleander, @eliminathan, @HollyDunnSomething, @unnameable & @Markus1981
Lowest: 7,5 (@Hudweiser)
Sprocky’s score: 8,0
Average: 9,638

@livefrommelbs was the only 11-giver to provide commentary, so the floor is yours “Pop-rock doesn't come much more perfect than this. I'm giving it my 11 because it's not only an absolute masterclass in terms of production, lyrics and delivery (Kelly's vocals are just incredible in this), but because it has the most personal resonance too. One of the all-time greats.” Well, this song is definitely a true PJ darling and definitely one of the greats!

Who knew it was Pink of all people that would turn Kelly Clarkson from a bride into bridesmaid. But it feels so right. I never viewed this as Kelly’s best and was with an 8 the lowest scorer in her discography rate. So I know I am a bit of alone in this. However no lowest scorer this time. That would be weird as a host. And that comment from me is the closest we get from shading this song. As there is nothing but praise from the commenters. An 11-contender for many of you. Including @əʊæMy second choice for an 11. Bride rolling in the mud is that emo aesthetic. The video, in which Kelly serves her best The CW drama demonic character, makes me so damn nostalgic”. @HollyDunnSomething says “My only other 11 contender. Just an incredible song and the vocal is insane”. If you both gave it your 11 it still would not have surpassed Who Knew as it has a 2,5 point difference to tie!

Praise incoming from @unnameablepossibly my favourite Kelly song” and @eliminathan adds to that “This was my favourite Kelly song for the longest time it's so powerful”. @Untouchable Ace calls it ‘undeniable’ and @berserkboi ‘loves’ it. @Maki is foreshadowing something a bit expected “One of the highlights on the album. I can see it being high placed in this rate”. @DJHazey will be pleased with the third rate in a row where this is placed higher (Kelly full discography / Winners Rate) than Since U Been Gone I've always ranked it above Since U Been Gone and figured that was an unpopular opinion until it won her discography rate. As cheesy as it sounds, I connected it to it from the beginning because of my own hazel eyes”. Though do not make @phily693 choose “For me this is on par with Since U Been Gone. One of the best pop rock songs of the decade and one of the best songs of that era. The chorus just explodes, you feel the hurt, anger and resentment but it never feels aggressive. The high note at the end of the middle 8 is to die for, truly a moment”.

@GhettoPrincess is doing the lord’s work “Another pop rock mammoth that I’ve probably praised many times. I will mention (probably again) that I love the ad-libs and how brilliant her vocals are here”. @Remorque adores this “A perfect example of how Kelly's vocals can sound subdued and a force of nature in one song. She sounds fucking fantastic and the production clearly helps here. And that note? Honey, your faves could never”. @Mirwais Ahmadzaï got reminded of this “Pop-rock Kelly is in full force on this song. I had forgotten what a great song this was until I randomly caught a bit of The Voice where some young rock girl sang this and performed the hell out of it (with Kelly watching)”. That takes guts and one hell of a set of pipes. @Blond is serving one accolade after the other “First of all the 1-2 punch of Since U Been Gone/ Behind These Hazel Eyes (or arguably 1-2-3-4 punch of Breakaway/ Since U Been Gone/ Behind These Hazel Eyes/ Because of You) is outrageous. My stan card had already been laminated at this point but then she comes out with this huge song with one of the best choruses of all time and an iconic video. And then there’s that insane ANYMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE note in the middle 8. Probably in my top 3 Kelly songs, which is saying a lot”.

Sprocky’s favourite commentary:
@Trouble in Paradise: “Look, all I’m saying is a lot of gay brown eyed boys claim to have hazel eyes ever since this album came out. That’s Kelly’s impact. But actually listen to Kelly serve us insane vocals along with devastating lyrics and try not to claim having actual hazel eyes like me and my queen" // Yeah, tell them!

Pink - Who Knew

Highest: 11 (@Remorque & @HollyDunnSomething) + 10 (@Hudweiser, @DJHazey, @GhettoPrincess, @CasuallyCrazed, @playboy69, @Blond, @Trouble in Paradise, @soratami, @berserkboi, @Sanctuary, @Mina, @Hurricane Drunk, @AlmostFamous, @2014, @Mirwais Ahmadzaï, @Robsolete, @JamesJupiter, @Maki, @Oleander, @eliminathan, @unnameable, @Markus1981) ---> meaning 7 voters did not give this a 10 or higher!
Lowest: 7,5 (@Guy)
Sprocky’s score: 10
Average: 9,725

First the floor is for the 11-givers. Starting with @RemorqueHer best song... Period. This is you do a good build-up, girls. The production fucking slays my puss every single time with those strings coming in at the end and she sounds fucking fantastic.”. And fellow 11-giver @HollyDunnSomething says “Without getting into it too much the lyrics in this make me think of someone I've lost in my life and it gets me every single time. I literally can't listen to the last minute once, I have to rewind it back to that final chorus every single time. Although Behind These Hazel Eyes is amazing there was no way I could give my 11 to anything else other than this. Easily my favourite P!nk song, I hope it does well in the rate”. Well winning must be a thrill I expect!

Well. I had no idea this song would have the range to pull off the victory. But seeing all those 10’s fly in and without making the sheet I knew it was going to win. A fucking deserving win. And that is no sweet revenge for her early cull, cause honestly I feel like Anastacia deserved a win more than that. But this song is in it’s own right one of the biggest classics of the modern day and as PJ has just decided Who Knew is the BEST POPROCK SONG FROM THE ZEROES. And I am thrilled. Seeing the outrage for the early cuts and hoping people would stick around instead of walking away to make sure they would see where those early cuts would lead to. A victorious triumph for a true master piece. When Pink does it right, it is right. Though one person might not entirely be happy with this result. @WowWowWowWow – handing out an 8 – says “Probably deserves an even lower score but the refrain saves it from being a total wash”.

More 11’s were bound to come if it wasn’t for Kelly Clarkson. As @Blond says “If Kelly wasn’t in this rate this would absolutely get my 11. I can 100% relate to this and the last chorus is breath-taking. The best P!nk song ever by a country mile”. And @Trouble in Paradise adds to that “Honestly, if Kelly wasn’t in this rate this would hands down be my 11. I adored this song when it came out and it’s just grown in power over the years. I lost one of my best friends to suicide and our relationship was always rather complicated with us fooling around in the ways friends do but me holding a lot more feelings towards him than I ever admitted to him. And holy shit do lyrics like “Wish I could still call you friend” and the whole bridge crush me. Her vocal delivery on “You visit me in my sleep/My darling” just holds all the lifelong pain of losing someone to suicide keeps the wound open no matter how much time has passed”.

Is this shade from @unnameablesounds like a superior Kelly Clarkson song”? @GhettoPrincess is clear however “Easily her best song ever. It’s just so gut-punching and real” and so is @Mirwais AhmadzaïPink’s best song ever”. @Maki is perhaps shook about this result “I’m sure this one will get far in this rate and that is obvious, since it’s so well written and performed. The last chorus is pure amazingness”. It needed to grow on @livefrommelbsI remember not being SUPER keen on P!nk until I heard this. Still one of her absolute bests”. Likewise for @phily693Like a few of the songs on this rate, I didn’t like it at the time but it’s thankfully clicked with me in recent years. A beautiful and powerful song. The strings on the last chorus really give it that beautiful, dramatic punch”. More of you are a fan of the outro, including @berserkboiA stunner and then at the end- godly” and @eliminathanThe violins kicking in at the end with the adlibbing is wonderful”. Here is @DJHazey with a remix recommendation “This is my all-time favorite song from P!nk, though it was Bimbo Jones remix that made me fall in love with it at first (which is the case for a few of her singles if I'm being honest). So many lines always stand out and have me ready to sing along to them each and every time but the top moment is definitely the "three years from now ... punch them out" part that always resonated with me for some reason”. Closing with the favourite lyric from @Untouchable Ace “I'll keep you locked in my head”. And so is this song now.

Sprocky’s favourite commentary:

@əʊæ: “This is so winning, isn't it?" // YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!

He/Him
I just have to say what a fantastic rate this was @Sprockrooster! We lost Vanessa far too early but your dedication to bringing us results and making sure we were engaged the whole way through was excellent. I was honoured to do a couple of guest eliminations for you & for you to complete everything despite the hardship you went through is immense. Hats off to you, lovely! Xx

Did you hear my GASP at the result?? I figured Kelly had it in the bag in a head to head against Pink.
Though one person might not entirely be happy with this result. @WowWowWowWow – handing out an 8 – says “Probably deserves an even lower score but the refrain saves it from being a total wash”.

Hahahaha save it for @Guy who had a lower mark than me! After “U & Ur Hand” took my 11, 8 was tied for my highest score off the album so it’s all good. Congratulations @Sprockrooster on a job well done on this fantastic, informative and enjoyable trip down memory lane!!!!

Wow!
'Who knew' that "Who Knew" would win. Perhaps @əʊæ ?

I'm so happy that a P!nk song won considering how underrated she was, along with Anastacia.
She is my favorite artist in this rate, which can be seen in the average scores (I wasn't sure I would be the one with the highest average for P!nk)

While "Behind These Hazel Eyes" is one of the highlights on "Breakaway", there were better songs in this rate.
I gave it a 9, and it totally deserved to be in top 10.

But "Who Knew" is so amazing, but it isn't even in my top 3 songs on "I'm Not Dead". That says a lot about the album.
What can I say, just Popjustice!

I was the lowest scorer, but oh well. Did it deserve to win over some of my favorite songs ever? Nah. But is it still a great song and one of P!nk’s best? Absolutely. There’s probably something symbolic about P!nk having both the first song out and the winning song though.
Anyway, I love your rates @Sprockrooster! They’re always run so efficiently, and you make it a joy to follow along. Keep doing you, boo xoxo

To summarize:
This was a real rollercoaster of a rate - many of my favorites going early, my 11 being the first one eliminated, then some songs proved as underdogs, top 10 being great, and finally P!nk winning.

An amazing collection of songs, many 10's were given and some discoveries happened.

Also, I'm a bit proud of the fact that I was never the lowest scorer of any song during the entire rate.

@Sprockrooster, thank you so much for this fantastic rate and being so nice, precise and loyal.
It will surely be a special one for me, because it's the first rate I was participating in.

And if there was a possibility of P!nk and/or Anastacia discography rate happening, I'd be thrilled!
