Lady Gaga - A Star Is Born

The soundtrack is great and I unironically love Hair, Body, Face and Why Did You Do That?

I never got the hype for the movie, though. I know it’s a remake, but I found it so cliche and dated. I guess it ticked all the boxes with certain audiences.

The fact that the studio version of Shallow exists and it wasn’t released is so annoying. Switching most of the songs from studio versions to “live” versions... definitely a choice. Still shocked they didn’t go ahead with putting out an EP after the best song win with all the versions they made.

I can't quote my post because it's in the locked Joanne thread but kii

Stefani Germanotta you will never be famous teas.

I guess it worked a lot because of Gaga and Bradley’s chemistry, and Bradley must have been really good at campaigning for it behind the scenes, but it still feels like a cute girl as a film. I suppose the main difference that made it “gritty” was that Bradley was a ~rock star here.

Yea, I genuinely liked A Star Is Born but it was a popcorn crowd pleasing movie. Nothing about it said "prestige". I guess on one hand it's great that it received the Oscar noms and critical praise because it meant that a movie a lot of people enjoyed and saw was at the Oscars, which has become increasingly rare. But other than Bradley's involvement, nothing about it had anything in common with what the Academy generally gravitates towards.

If they were going to waste Chromatica, they should've just made Always Remember Us This Way a US single. They held off for overexposure/next era reasons, but it would've been a guaranteed hit.

Pretty sure they held off because they didn’t want to split awards voters with multiple songs, and then after awards season the studio had no monetary incentive to continue promoting or supporting the soundtrack?

It’s a shame though because Always’ is really something special. A victim of ambition, I suppose.

For the academy? Because the single release would've taken place after, and for Grammys 'Always' was only eligible the following year.

"Always Remember Us This Way" not being pushed to its fullest extent remains one of the dumbest decisions of her career. I know that it still picked up Platinum certifications everywhere/the soundtrack sold (and is still selling) like crazy so it didn't need another single/etc., but a hit is a hit, and that was a hit. It would've been inescapable and deservedly so.
