Lady Gaga - A Star Is Born

It's clearly part of the PR move to make this thing go away.
So...what is she supposed to do? She couldn't stay silent, so she made a statement where she admitted she fucked up and declared her solidarity with the victims, part of that being removal of the song from all platforms so R. Kelly wouldn't profit from it anymore.

Nothing about that seems cynical or trying to sweep it under the rug to me. The song will always exist regardless because of the Internet, and it would appear she's given it a lot of thought since, took the L and is trying to rectify the situation in whatever way she can.

I mean, none of us are to know how sincere or insincere her intentions/actions are because... none of us are Lady Gaga. Sure, on some level, this was calculated – she was being increasingly pressured to respond. Personally, I don't think it matters if she was sincere in speaking out or removing the song??? The song has been removed, one piece of R. Kelly's musical legacy has been removed, one (small) form of R. Kelly's income has been removed, one more notable figure has spoken out against a horrible abuser. That's that. She can't timehop to 2013 and cancel the duet. How about worrying more about the music industry figures who cover(ed) for R. Kelly and the families of victims who are still being abused by him?

I hated that song so much because I thought it was the blandest thing she‘d ever released at the time, didn‘t understand why people liked it, and it ended my hardcore Gaga fandom. But then again what do I know - I would have preferred Mary Jane Holland as a single back then when in reality there were no singles on Artpop.

Meanwhile, A STAR IS BORN has proven to be the only contending Best Picture nominee to be nominated by every guild/union in Hollywood (SAG/PGA/DGA/WGA/ASC/CDG/Hair & Makeup/Sound/Art Direction/Editing) indicating strong and rare cross-industry support.

Perhaps the Globes loss and GREEN BOOK controversy will propel it forward.

You really think she's removing the song off sincerity considering it wasn't removed until after the media caught on to all this?
Can you cite all the other musicians who have pulled songs from their catalogue with R. Kelly after the extensive media attention?

It's been clear since she retired the song live that she isn't proud, it's embarrassing. But is any artist going to wipe songs from their digital library on a whim? I personally don't fault her for waiting until it was brought to her attention because, honestly, the last thing she and her management are going to do is be the reason people starting paying attention to such a dreadful pairing. This is a very heavy situation, and the way it's dealt with matters significantly.

Maybe I need to just take my stan goggles off, but she's doing her best to right this wrong.

I think the fact that her fans are making her out to be some kind of victim in this situation is what bothers many.

The only people doing that are responding to those – like you, who, for some reason, insist on making this all about Lady Gaga by focusing on her motives behind finally speaking on the matter when everything is already laid out in her apology. She’s doing her part, so maybe it’s time to shift the focus back to amplifying the women who came forward, since they’ve gone so long without having their voices heard and have given up thousands upon thousands of dollars and quite literally risked their lives to be here.

Removing the song shows how serious she is about making it right. She could have just apologized and moved on. She's trying to show that this is not just about words for her.

Is she trying to clean up this mess? Of course. Who wouldn't? That she is also interested in career preservation doesn't somehow make her apology and removal of the song disingenuous.

This is a damn lie.
I'll spoiler this shit cause ya'll don't need to hear me go off about Artpop for the nnth time.
The album is packed chok full to brim with potential singles.
Sexxx Dreams, Artpop, Fashion, Mary Jane, Gypsy, Venus, Aura even bloody dame Shania cast off MANiCURE would have potentially been a single.
Jewels & Drugs, Swine and Donatella are the only exceptions to this rule.
The hip, Do What U Want debacle and Troy derailed what would probably have been a glorious lap of honour for the primary period of her career and possibly her best ever singles run from an album.

Agree with this besides two things, 1) Aura would have been a dreadful single. Radio would not have touched that, and 2) What really derailed Artpop (in my opinion) was waiting so damn long to get G.U.Y to radio. Do What U Want was a hit and the GP did not give a shit about her management turnover. I think things would have served her slightly better if G.U.Y had been sent to radio in January instead of nearly April. The interest in the album was gone by then.
