Lady Gaga - A Star Is Born

Posts like this are... odd. Same with the ones that suggest "why not go after Chris Brown!?".

Do y'all think.... there are people who take issue with R. Kelly being a sexual predator but who enjoy Chris Brown and Dr. Luke? The people wanting to hold Gaga accountable very likely largely don't consume Dr. Luke or Chris Brown's music to begin with.
Gaga should definitely hold herself accountable, and she did + apologised. I’m talking about people who are still trying to find ways to attack her. My post was just coming from a place of disappointment and how unfair it is. It’s even sadder that the audience that consumes Chris Brown and R Kelly songs, don’t see the wrong in that and proceed to bring down a artist that worked with him, once 7 years ago.

....why would people who like R. Kelly bash Lady Gaga.... for working with him? What?

That's.. what's trying to be emphasized. There's like some weird hand-wringing attempt to over-state and over-emphasize a few bad faith voices to paint people as largely unsympathetic to Gaga, when 1) that's.. just not the case and 2) heavy-handedly unneeded because of just how much it's not the case.

It's one thing to call out hypothetical user GetIntoTheGroove467 for concern-trolling, but painting the overall reaction as unfair to Gaga is just removed from reality. And the weird laundry-listing of anyone who has ever had contact with Kelly as some kind of gotcha is odd. It ignores that many of the people who had an issue with Gaga's actions likely already have issues with most of the toxic men being used, or that many of the female artists being used (Tinashe?!) were in much different power dynamics than Gaga was.

I personally took no issue with her apology cause it wasn't an apology for me, and I'm just glad some of R. Kelly's victims feel better after her apology. So over-catastrophizing the supposed reaction to her decisions is just as unhelpful as anyone who is concern-trolling or weaponizing it against her.

Eveything you’re saying is valid and that’s not what I’m arguing, and no need to compare me to someone who’s obviously trolling for the wrong reason. I still stand by my first post that the ‘internet is weird’. Maybe I’m too naive but I’ll like to see these awful men take some responsibility for once.

My point is: it’s weird that we live in a time, where we don’t expect the likes of Chris Brown, R Kelly, Dr Luke... to explain themselves/be decent human beings.

Trust me. I would want nothing else either. My only point was just how things spiral downward when we end up messily conflating one group (people holding Gaga accountable) with another (people who support R. Kelly).

I think people demanding Gaga do better are those who are causing the change to also hold R. Kelly accountable.

I agree so much with this but you articulated better then I could!

There’s also a pretty cool article from Time about the soundtrack’s success.

But the soundtrack’s popularity still probably comes down to Gaga, who is one of the decade’s most chameleonic artists. Her big-screen debut guaranteed a passionate built-in audience, and she sounds equally at home on the rootsy rock that Ally sings at the beginning of her career as she does on the sleek synth-pop that she performs as she progresses.

A Star Is Born
reminded viewers of the powerhouse performer that she’s always been within the context of a new character. Plus, there’s her voice. “To have a voice like that in a song that you write is a dream come true,” says songwriter Natalie Hemby, who contributed to Ally’s two big emotional solos—both being put forward as Oscar contenders alongside “Shallow.”

and yes I absolutely did cut the part out of them calling Joanne a commercial underperformance

It’s nice to read an article that doesn’t shade “pop sellout Ally”, but I too disagree with the framing of Joanne in relation to Gaga’s career. Although it wasn’t a blockbuster era by any stretch, I feel like it and “Million Reasons” at the Super Bowl repositioned Gaga as a credible, #authentic artist with the general public and if anything paved the way for the success of A Star Is Born’s country-tinged rock balladry. Things would certainly be different if ARTPOP was the immediate predecessor.

I believe it’s from this song:

Of course, what a great song.

I highly doubt tthat user would name themselves after a song by a black person
This is... Mean, considering I listen to a lot of different artists and Rihanna and Beyoncé are two of my faves, but honestly I don't care anymore about these opinions because I am really tired of the attitude some users have of putting labels on everyone they don't like. So thank u next ilysm.

I hope they'll update the digital editions of ARTPOP with the Christina version of Do What U Want now that Christina has also shown support on Twitter. And remove R. Kelly's writing credit in the process.

I don’t think you can just remove writing credits like that. Putting up the Christina version supports Kelly financially, so I highly doubt that will happen.

That's very true, I guess I'm still hoping R. Kelly's writing credit on the Christina version is an error.

Tidal still hasn't taken the R Kelly version down.
