So that’s where my preorder money went!
the event sounds great and good for her for working hard to provide help. Her money is where her mouth is.
Imagine being this productive while working from home. IMAGINE.
Forgive us negative Nellys who are feeling extra cynical in the midst of a pandemic. Perhaps consider that the problem might not have anything to do with an album delay or Gaga herself but our relationship with wealth and celebrity being tenuous in general. Some people might enjoy sitting down to watch this with their family. Some of us might find the idea extremely uncomfortable. Good for Gaga for using her A-list status to fundraise among the rich. I, however, cannot bear to watch any of the at-home-with-celebrities broadcasts these days. Maybe it hits differently when it hits close to home?Everyone should stop being so cynical and just appreciate she’s actually trying her best to do something benevolent, uplifting, and most importantly she’s putting her money where her mouth is which she’s consistently done for the last decade.
she can be a bit kooky, I understand the Malibu mentality is sometimes out of touch or even a tad problematic, but you cannot deny the efforts here.
It made sense to be a bit skeptical when she postponed the record but clearly she was putting her energy into something else and will make an impact
Here’s her announcement, by the way.
Ladies and Gentleman let me introduce Tony Bennett
But...she delayed the entire album campaign much to the exceedingly vocal chagrin of forum dot popjustice dot com so that she could focus on proactively putting her name, clout and resources behind a project like this and explicitly NOT have it be seen as promotion. So...how does that feel like a branding opportunity when this is literally why we're not getting the album Friday and why it still doesn't have a confirmed release date? Why does this feel like a gross branding opportunity.
Why does this feel like a gross branding opportunity.

When she said in her original statement about delaying music that she wanted to focus her attention on solutions instead, it seemed hyperbolic to suggest that the two were mutually exclusive, but maybe she had a point in definitively separating the two projects, if she knew that this was the kind of bad faith reaction any large scale effort on her part was likely to inspire?
And if you just mean 'branding' in the more general sense then you must have been disgusted by her setting up an anti-bullying foundation named after her most recent album at the time or her advocating for sexual assault survivors while also having a song out tackling that subject matter.
Like she said, the money is already raised, this is just supposed to be a vaguely entertaining goodwill gesture and distraction for those who want it. She's not out here asking you to join her for a Lab Rat Cosmetics live stream, where she'll be showing us how we can Glam Attack the virus away, using discount code 'COVIDICA' for 10% off at checkout.
We love a healthy dose of cynicism - and I personally feel unmoved by the event, will unlikely even tune in to watch and would much rather we had a new Lady Gaga album to enjoy instead - but your take ironically feels a bit uncharitable in the face of the actual facts of the matter.
