Lady Gaga - Dawn of Chromatica

What I always admired about Gaga was that she seemed to truly enjoy being a creative, a performer and an artist. She used to totally live and breathe her creations and therefore really draw you into the work, in the way that few pop stars do. I mean, that’s why certain people go on to become great/legendary, isn’t it? They invest more time and nuance into their work, they have a fully-realised vision, it’s not just a job or platform for celebrity, they truly are just a superior talent compared to most people, etc etc.

Having said all that, basically I think what is irking/disappointing people is that she’s completely shutting herself off. She’s not inviting you in to enjoy the process with her. I get that there might be certain restrictions around parts of the release, of which she may have limited control, but I don’t think the answer was to completely disengage. Because it means we do as well. I feel like she still could’ve found creative ways around releasing bits of material, even if it’s not related to the album necessarily. Her inability to be creative/decision to completely grind to a halt, makes me doubt her creativity full stop. Which is kind of a big issue with an artist...

On the other hand, we’re all going through a horrible time at the moment and perhaps she’s just not coping very well. We don’t really know.

I like to think she now realizes how dumb her pushback statement was. It’s clear this pandemic isn’t going to end anytime soon, but the album needs to be out sooner rather than later. I imagine the reality of the former is one reason she’s doing the absolute least to signal that the era is moving forward (as to not contradict herself) and won’t formerly announce the release until it’s imminent. I guess we’ll see.

I’m just baffled they thought that announcement was a good idea. The writing was on the wall this wasn’t going away any time soon. Why couch the pushback in terms of focusing on pandemic efforts? Cases and deaths are still growing, treatments and vaccines are at least months away, and the fallout will last years.

Releasing on the original date undoubtedly would have been awkward, given the circumstances and some unfinished content I guess, but I still think she could have done so respectfully. After that announcement though, there’s no way she releases this over the next few months without looking like an ass (and by her own standards no less!). I honestly think I prefer she release the album next year at this point.

The next three and a half weeks are gonna be more of a challenge than the last six weeks of lockdown combined teebs

This is exactly how I feel. Even if the album has a handful of good songs its going to be difficult to miraculously forget about how she treated this album campaign. That notes app post still leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. The lack of enthusiasm on her part is just...upsetting. You have an album out in approximately three weeks the least you could do is act like you care.

Wouldn't that make the situation worse though?
