also not to be that girl, because I don't claim it, but I'm Breathless contains 3 Stephen Sondheim originals

It's still serving mothballs and Boots Christmas adverts, but World on a String is hooky and actually has a cute arrangement.

Any/All
Completing my first listen fighting the urge to skip the Frank Sinatra cover... I mean... Gaga is beaming with radiance that I haven't seen in like ten years so I have enough goodwill to forgive her the fact that her tenth attempt at making her own I'm Breathless still failed to produce anything as boptastic as Now I'm Following You Part II.

I might take The Joker as a cute standalone though.

Okay, just listened.

This is... her recent jazz show in Vegas made into an album. Which is not what anything about the lead-up was promising it was going to be, so on that note, @GimmeWork please accept my apologies for attacking you with three (3) paragraphs of bullshit yesterday. I got got!

I probably won't use this too much as an album, but there are gems, particularly (and I am more surprised writing this than all you will be reading it)... her rendition of "Smile"? For such a trite and pawed song, her version of it sounds surprisingly intimate and lush. Caught me off guard. There's one song in there that plays with southern Gospel sensibilities that I quite enjoyed as well. And her own compositions also shine.

Ultimately, and much like her jazz show, this album is an amalgamation of itches she's always going to need to scratch and her fanbase is always going to avoid like the plague: AC ballads, big band jazz, standards, all of that. If you enjoy that... you'll enjoy the album. It's not the adventurous Ringo Sheena moment I was expecting at all. I have to echo @mindtrappa saying that this is basically a slightly elevated Cheek to Cheek meets Joanne if Brian Newman was at the helm. Perfectly serviceable, but that's about it.

Oh, and the statements alleging that she sounds remotely bad on this are simply ridiculous.

I’m surprised by how much i love her cover of Smile since this song has been done to death to the point of me never wanting to listen to it again but here we are.

Happy Mistake is incredible, it got me in the same rush i felt when i heard Always Remember Us This Way for the first time.

I wish everything leaned more into The Joker sound because the rest of the album (apart from World On A String which is lovely) is kinda trash.
