Lady Gaga - Harlequin

Ok having only heard the officially released snippets so far, the World on a String preview on Zane Lowe is absolutely delicious, reminds me of a 2024 version of Frank by Amy Winehouse. Maybe it's a complete outlier but this is not giving Cheek 2 Cheek to me at all

The highs are great, but it's a bit of an unfocused project as a whole. I guess that was part of the point though, judging by the interview, so.

Okay, on second listen "Happy Mistake" is lowkey a great Gargoyle song. The lyrics in particular, when I look at them combined with this "dual identities" soundbite she's been wheeling out recently when assessing her career up until now, are amazing and also... promising of what's to come. I only say that because the song is one of the few original compositions on the album, so if a through-line is to be expected, then... yeah!

I'm not listening until midnight or maybe after that........ but I'm perplexed (in a good way) at how she managed to hoodwink the gays sksk. Like "Look, me at the LOUVRE" "LOOK, album inspired by dark twisted clown shit!" "LISTEN, GUITARS!" and then literally "have some tea my darling, we're dancing cheek to cheek ;)" this is some next level shit.

It all circles back to the first announcement of the movie using Cheek to Cheek as soundtrack as well dddd.

Great standards, beautiful singing...

Not my cup of tea, but appreciate that she's so passionate about it.

I had somehow convinced myself that the production would be a lot more interesting than it actually is, though. I mean - it's well produced - but there's nothing left of field here. Which is completely at odds with the art direction.

The Joker kind of stands out to me as an example of them trying something different with the production, but everything else falls short of that.
