I do feel like Gaga tries to play both sides and keep middle America/conservatives on side. But I don't think she's ever gone so far as to reasonably allow for anyone to ignore "Born This Way" et al.

Her post is very powerful and it's amazing that she is taking a stance, but I also find interesting the flood of 'she has gone woke' comments - for me it confirms how diluted (and even forgotten?) her original persona has become in the GP mind following years of 'safe' projects and mind-numbing brand collaborations.

Ehm is anyone else confused about woke? I always think of the social stuff being woke is that you don't discriminate and are not an asshole... But there is the other woke which is fakefluencers saying they see 'the truth' and are awak, they '''research''' their own stuff to believe in conspiracy theories. So now what is woke really to mean.

I also think Lady gaga is an interesting artist.

The second stuff you mentioned is being redpilled (or something) not woke. By Gaga being woke they mean she stands for social justice (a good thing).

Being woke is largely short-hand for being a liberal leftie who says things like

Except being woke carries with it values compatible with human decency whereas conservatism is basically redressed social Darwinism, with racism bridging the cognitive dissonance gap. Not really here for this moral relativism/false equivalence. Conservatism is objectively more cruel and callous than social justice. And conservatives have never built a movement whose objective is to liberate people or improve their lives. After all, the civil rights movement was woke.

If that is scary or broken to conservatives, then a long look in the mirror is needed but won’t happen because these days even basic self-reflection is “woke.”

I mean, how else can one describe someone who thinks standing up for the rights of marginalized groups is a bad thing? It’s a completely broken worldview and it’s almost grotesque in its childishness and overall lack of seriousness.

Being woke is AAVE slang that means someone is aware of prejudice, discrimination, injustice, etc. It was grifted by white people and has now been entirely co-opted by conservatives for culture war points. I'm not suggesting your interpretation of conservative thinking is incorrect, but your choice of quote seems rather pointed. That's a surface-level assessment that doesn't really answer the question or add anything to the conversation except the bizarre strain of devil's advocacy that seems to be your MO.

Yeah, much like “cancel culture” and other terms that originated within black spaces, “woke” – although much older in its origins– has been appropriated by white supremacists (not even going to bother calling these people anything else) to the point of unseriousness. This is all by design to desensitize and empower the worst types of people.

And they're doing the same thing to "grooming" right now by using it to describe anything gay/trans that has to do with childhood when the actual original meaning of the word was important in detecting and combating more insidious forms of abuse. It's a known culture war tactic.
