Lady Gaga - Mayhem

The inauguration is Monday. The news the last 2 weeks has focused on the LA fires.

They obviously wanted Die With A Smile to hit #1 and focus on that. Clearly things are a bit in limbo with the general state of the world and media.

When The Weeknd, Beyoncé and others are delaying their releases or announcements, can you really expect LG7 news right now?

I think we should accept Chromatica's lack of communication maybe wasn't a result of the pandemic, but something to expect moving forward.

I think this pretty much underlines your post. The vacuum of silence was taking place long before any of the unfortunate world events.

If silence (for intended mystery or otherwise) is her motivator, it needs to be handled in a much smarter way than breadcrumbing fans then playing the evasive card. When even the biggest diehards are feeling apathy towards the rollout, it’s a hard task to shake that off and re-motivate people. We saw how Harlequin did as a result of all of this - a hard no, even from her most loyal fans. Compare the general tone in the fanbase from last summer (Chromatica Ball snippet through Paris previews) to now, and it’s clear to see the steam has gone out of everything. Of course things will revive as and when things come with Coachella, the Rio show etc, but the dead zone inbetween then will have done at least some damage. I genuinely do think the album will be good, but it would be nice for them to work in support of the material for once, not actively against it.

It’s mostly just frustrating to me that a superstar of her calibre is still handling things in such a messy way. People genuinely want her to win, but it feels like they make it incredibly hard to do that. Some of her peers have entered their most exciting period in their music careers at this juncture, and wanting that for her too isn’t a negative thing, even if it may feel unrealistic as time goes by.

Sorry, but I'm done giving her any kind of benefit of the doubt when it comes to apparently stopping eras out of respect for whatever miserable thing is happening in the world at that moment. That got trotted out enough with the last album and eventually proved to be bullshit. This is just how she and her team operate. Now, are there possible logistical problems caused by the fires? Definitely. We have no idea if people on her team or even at the label have been effected by it, and that might cause a problem or two... but an Instagram post takes nothing. So much that would drive engagement and excitement takes nothing. And yet.

"Die With A Smile" being on this album means that promo is pretty much sewn up. Bobby can finally rest easy after maybe ten minutes of work this year. The album will appear like a success even if no one's listening to the other stuff, she'll get to sit at the piano for forty five minutes of ninety minute sets at Coachella and Rio, and the era will be done.

You'd have thought the floppage of Joker 2 would have lit a fire under her team, it feels like it has now been forgotten about so it is the perfect time to strike but nothing.

and the era will be done

This is where I'm at. If promoting your work during the fires is an optics problem to the point that Beyoncé postponed the previously-announced announcement of her tour... "I am extremely grateful that you guys are patiently waiting for news on my upcoming record, but sometimes we need to be there for each other and let everything else take the backseat. I have made donations to the organizations below, and I encourage you to do the same if you can. See you soon." Done! Understandable! She gets to be the Richter Scale in the shape of a girl again and we breathe a sigh of relief that that whopper didn't poison her. We already know she's performing at that charity concert anyway.

I don't think any of this really matters all that much, but this aloofness happening on top of the unnecessarily drawn-out rollout is the reason her most rabid stan circles are losing their marbles. I appreciate her signaling to us that new music is coming, but we're talking nine months between the first tease at the end of the tour film and the album release, where we've had a film and an entire Bette Midler album with billboards, international listening parties, and talk show promotional appearances. I said this recently, but that's not what her diehards tune in to her for.

And now we're merely ten days away from release month with no pre-order. The Bruno song already got to number one, we've heard rumblings that the song smashing did not change the sound of the album, and she would prevent balding gays from leaking her titles through website domains out of spite. How does she benefit from holding back the tea? Maybe it will start pouring in this week and all of this talk would have been for nothing, but we don't know that, and she's arguably already late for no reason.

Anyway, her pushing back the album is what would actually piss me off. Thank god I'm actually enjoying the music this time around.
