Lady Gaga - Mayhem

Genuine question for the smilers here... did you love it instantly or did it grow on you after being hammered into your skull by radio over time?

Not sure why you wanted our opinion but I hate Die With A Smile and have been unimpressed with it since my first listen.

I really liked it upon first listen, which took me by surprise as it just sounds so unappealing on paper. But they did their thang, impeccable melody that stays with you, corny yet romantic lyrics that they both sang the fuck out of. I understand why singers™ love it.

I did think the single’s imagery was absolute trite though and all my goodwill towards the single is specifically for the song.

I don't listen to radio much so I haven't thought about it since it came out (just not my type of song).... but my 74 yr old aunt asked me if I'd do the Bruno part at karaoke with her (she's apparently obsessed), so now I'm contemplating force feeding it enough to be familiar/pull it off... I'm tempted to tell her she's got a deal, but only if she learns the words to Government Hooker and we do both.

I never thought in my lil monstrosity days that I'd be here.. but excited for Mayhem none-the-less because I'd rather she cosplay that Gaga.

I sincerely hope she managed to make her “it’s the missing piece” make sense because its placement on the tracklist (the end of all of them) is giving “studio mandated addition” still.

I liked it instantly and then grew to love it. Don't listen to the radio, only just got around to watching the video the other day. I think the lyrics are sobering and affecting (especially since the world feels like it's constantly on the verge of ending nowadays). Bruno's voice is sexy as hell to me, I've always enjoyed Gaga's vocals on more soulful instrumentation, and their voices blend well together. It's just warm and romantic and doesn't sound too overthought, reminds me of one of those early '90s adult contemporary duets that artists don't really do anymore.

I get why people wouldn't be rushing to stream Die With A Smile, particularly fans of the more fagotronic side of Gar - and I'm still not quite sure how or if it's going to slot neatly into the Fagotron 8000 MAYHEM is shaping up to be - but it's a nice love ballad and I think the negative reaction to it is a lot (and frankly, speaking as a Bruno hater myself, I think his presence is also affecting some of the judgment).

I felt similarly about Hold My Hand though, so whatever I guess. The only collaboration/extracurricular moment she's done recently that I've outright hated is Sweet Sound of Heaven, and it's been plenty easy for me to avoid that one ddd

I think what @bad karma meant was that it sounded like you were asking for the opinion of Smilers, ie Miley stans nn

Personally I liked Die ever since hearing the snippets, pretty much. To me Gaga is easily the best of her peers at ballads/slow songs, and this is another great example of that, it just sounded like a classic from day one.

Die is her first hit that feels bigger than her, if that makes any sense. Like, yes Bad Romance and Poker Face are massive, but they rose to prominence with her name/profile. In terms of other collaborations, Shallow was wrapped around her first major-motion picture, Rain On Me belonged in her universe.

It's a duet with mass appeal and it doesn't have a true stamp from her or her fanbase to tie back into an album. It sounds like a song that's casually existed for a long time.

I dunno if I was just so starved of new Gar music that I hammered Die With A Smile out of pure relief to hear her voice on something… but either way I love it. Did I condition myself into that? Maybe so. But I still listen to it on regular tbh. Have been on a bit of a Goog kick recently (not that I’m ever like… not) listening to a cute “Gaga24” playlist that consists of:

Die With A Smile
The Joker
Happy Mistake
Disease

Which has been enough to keep me going, although Sunday needs to hurry up! Hopefully we get news on when it’s debuting cause if it’s during the GRAMMYs and I have to wait till Monday morning, well… well I won’t do anything but it’ll be annoying

I don’t know what is about Die with a Smile, but to me it just feels so… calculated. Like it’s been designed by focus group to appeal to the broadest number of people possible. I guess it’s mission accomplished in that regard.
That's kind of all Bruno songs. At least his huge hits, I haven't really explored his discography.
