Lady Gaga - Mayhem

Little Monsters doing their thing.

I have a theory that the album's lead single Disease will age quite well. It makes perfect sense as a Gaga song given her own personal taste and dad-rock leanings, there's nothing inherently bad about it, and
yet releasing it as a single in 2024 just didn't feel like the right move. If the pop girls start putting out stadium rock anthems in 5-10 years, she'll be vindicated. And honestly, wasn't she about half a decade early to the pop-rock revival with Perfect Illusion? No one really talks about that.

Ava Max literally could never because she has never had a single original thought or even melody in her fucking life, and in fact owes her biggest hit to Gaga putting down one of her toys so she could grab it. To suggest she even has a discernable signature sound to emulate is laughable. She is a compost heap of a popstar, made up of the rotting, discarded remains of those who are better at it than she is.

Phew, forgot the lightning in the veins that stanning Gagger brings!

Fuck, I actually like Ava Max (sometimes) but I'm SCREAMING at this!!

This thread has moved so quickly and I’m sure variations of this have been said on every page, BUT:

– The styling here is practically perfect, and everything is really coming together visually this era. Hell, the album covers are starting to click! I know people pointed to Chromatica’s aesthetics as a high point, but it always felt fairly cartoonish to me in a way that didn’t feel organic. This sleeker, more refined and (yes) darker vibe is so much more classic Gaga to me without coming across as tired pastiche.

– The choreography is some of her best in years. Doesn’t quite reach the sublime levels of “Bad Romance,” but good lord, literally nothing does. I got chills at multiple points, the movement is effective!

– Similarly, Gaga is mugging and scowling and projecting pure chaotic energy every moment she’s onscreen. Yes, I want to be a little scared of you, Mother! Bug your eyes out and make me fear you’ll Kali Ma my heart out of my chest and through the computer screen! This is the mayhem we crave!

– Between this and “Disease,” this is my favorite one-two punch of an album taster since “Born This Way” and “Judas.” It just feels so natural for her, and by extension, for me as a fan. The paws are out and raised high for the first time in a while. Feels, good man

Is this implying American Life has a bad cover or
I can see the connection, kinda? The art direction is flawlessly executed but for an album that's largely inward-looking, titling your record American Life with a cover that's an homage to Patty Hearst and Che Guevara is a bit of a misdirect, in the same way that the standard MAYHEM cover lacks a certain degree of chaos™️ otherwise implied by the title.
